An Inspired Chat with Jay Michael Night of Neighborhood

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jay Michael Night. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Jay Michael, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I’ve been chasing my dream of becoming a bestselling full-time author for four years now. If I stopped, all the moment and success I’ve been building now would likely go out the window along with my dream. That’s why stopping is not an option for me. I’ve got twenty more books planned over the next 5-10 years.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Howdy! I am Jay Michael Night, I’m the owner of Synedrium Publishing, a small Indie LLC that I publish my books through. As of right now, I’ve written nine books in multiple different genres and points of view, including fantasy, romantasy, contemporary and even a children’s Christmas book coming out at the end of this year. I am also a dentist, husband to the love of my life, and dog dad to four pups. I’m an Army combat veteran and second generation Cuban American.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I got through Army Basic training which was the most difficult thing I had ever gone through in my life. By the end of it, I felt like I could get through anything. That has carried me through even more difficult times like being in Afghanistan, back surgery and more.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There are too many times to count where I have almost given up. The first two weeks in the Army, the start of writing my first book, the first year of being an indie author where I barely had 5 sales. But a book that doesn’t exist can’t become a bestseller.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, for the most part. My public persona might be a little more extroverted than I really am. I am a big introvert and a bit of a hermit. I’ve had quite an exciting life and now prefer to be home with my dogs and wife, writing whatever comes to me.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If immortality were real, what would you build?
Haha. I’ve always had the secret fantasy/hope that I’m going to be around long enough for when the secret of immortality is unlocked. I’m sure other people would build extraordinary things with their extended lives, but I would have more time to create the most perfect, epic story.
