We recently had the chance to connect with Rebecca Fillion and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Rebecca, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think others, and myself included, secretly struggle with imposter syndrome. It’s that persistent inner voice telling us we’re not enough or don’t belong. What’s fascinating is that this voice is really our ego’s way of keeping us safe. It’s rooted in our comfort zones where things feel predictable and less risky.
The only way to break free is to take a leap of faith despite the fear and self-doubt. When you silence that voice that says “you can’t” or “you’re not ready,” you open the door to new opportunities and growth. That leap is often the first step toward discovering untapped potential and success! The challenge, and opportunity, is trusting yourself enough to move forward, even when the path is uncertain.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Rebecca Fillion, founder of Fillion Notary & Apostille Services where we deliver high-touch, premium notary services and apostille facilitation. We serve the Greater Raleigh Triangle of North Carolina and beyond.
We partner with solo attorneys and small firms that outsource their notary services to save time and deliver unmatched value and flexibility to their clients in real estate, estate planning, and family law. We’re trusted because we ensure sensitive signings are handled correctly, quickly, and with empathy. We show up where people need us most: hospice, hospitals, assisted living facilities, homes, or offices.
Fun facts about me: I’m type A to my core and driven by entrepreneurship. This combination has made me a fierce business owner who prioritizes relationships and integrity above all else. I’m honored to help people navigate major life milestones and provide peace of mind. I’m deeply grateful for the trust our clients and community place in us.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child growing up in a small town in Northern Michigan, I didn’t believe I was destined for much. My parent was on disability due to a bi-polar disorder, and while my basic needs were met, our family struggled financially. I experienced neglect and minimal support during my teenage years, which lead to depression and abandonment issues.
Without encouragement or guidance, I lacked confidence and didn’t see a path forward beyond survival. I remember being asked what I wanted to do for a living in a high school speech class, and I said “Work at Sam Goody in the mall,” because I didn’t believe I was worth more or could dream any bigger.
Little did I know, Sam Goody shut down years ago, and so did that limited mindset. Through fight or flight, I discovered just how strong I am. Moving to Cary, NC in 2021 sparked a deep passion for entrepreneurship and service of heart.
In retrospect, every challenge shaped my resilience and prepared me to build this business and the legacy I’m creating for my children. I couldn’t be more proud of myself and everything I’ve accomplished.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be this: You are worthy of big dreams, and your circumstances do not define your value or your future. Trust your strength, keep going, and know that every challenge is shaping you into someone capable of building a life beyond anything you ever imagined.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me is authentic and real. I value genuine connections and make it a priority to show up as my true self every day. It’s why I founded Cheers & Careers, a happy hour networking group focused on authenticity rather than cookie-cutter pitches.
While professionalism means I keep a few candid opinions to myself about topics like religion and politics, honesty remains at the core of who I am, and that transparency is what has drawn such strong support from my community.
I trust my intuition and have a keen sense for what’s genuine, and what isn’t.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I tap dance to work every single day! I wake up genuinely excited for the life God has blessed me with. I have a purposeful career, an amazing and loving family, and an opportunity to build a meaningful legacy for my children.
Connecting with high-level professionals, strengthening our community, and setting new revenue goals all fuel my passion. I thrive on meeting new people, forming lasting relationships with clients, and finding new ways to challenge myself.
There’s a sense of adrenaline and fulfillment in pushing past limits and knowing I am exactly where I’m meant to be. Every step of my journey has prepared me for this moment, and I’m grateful to do meaningful work that aligns with my calling and faith.
