Hi Alyssa “Plug”, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
From the heart of Durham, North Carolina, hails Plug—a revolutionary MC with a flow that defies the ordinary. Born Alyssa J. Tatum, Plug is more than an artist; she’s a vessel for truth, purpose, and transformation. A natural storyteller since the age of nine, she was prophesied to impact the world through her gifts—and she’s been on that mission ever since.

After graduating from Hillside High School, Plug pursued a Communications and Culture degree at Howard University. However, it was during her junior year that she had a life-changing spiritual encounter, leading her to write her first 16 bars—marking the birth of Plug and her calling to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through music.

With over a decade of experience as a youth advocate across churches, non-profits, classrooms, and afterschool programs, Plug has dedicated her life to redefining hip-hop and empowering the next generation. Through her raw lyrics, spoken word, and hip-hop classes, she captures hearts, rebuilds mentalities, and spreads love—one song, one story, and one testimony at a time.

Now serving as a programming manager for the poof center plug desires to implement these passions into the lives of the children that come through the center doors

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist .. hip hop poetry sing I’m most proud of the transparency that I share in my work .. I use my voice to tell my story and so many others

Any big plans?
I want to first make a heavy impact in Durham and spread that across cities that are troubles like Durham。 music is so powerful and I want to impact the artists and industry that has the power to shift the dynamic of influence our youth
