Check Out Anisha Danielson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anisha Danielson.

Anisha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After graduating from beauty school, I started doing kids’ hair for a guaranteed paycheck. Obtaining my cosmetology license was a part of my plan to pay for college so I could essentially become a network engineer. After carefully and thoughtfully analyzing my skills’ impact on brown girls’ confidence, I knew my purpose was in hair care. Showing up for work because I made a difference made me redirect my career to the beauty industry. The desire to learn as much as possible about cosmetology and share my knowledge propelled me to become a beauty school instructor. While teaching others, I inadvertently began teaching myself. I also learned that I wanted to open up my beauty salon.

Being an entrepreneur is tough; becoming one is more challenging. Before I took my leap of faith, I had to sacrifice significantly. My posh apartment was exchanged for a room, my new car for an old car, and I turned vegan. Every penny I earned was used to pay off my debts, so I could have a better chance of securing a business loan. After two years of researching Raleigh’ ‘s demographics, saving sedulously, and truly believing in myself, I was ready to invest in my vision.

Like a virus that infiltrates your computer and ruins your programming, Covid-19 plagued our nation. Being the believer that I am, there was no way this virus would stop me from at least trying. In true entrepreneur fashion, I still stepped out on faith. To this date, I’m still faithful, and I am still stepping.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road less traveled usually does not have a vehicle for you to follow. Establishing Childish Mane at the height of a pandemic was everything but smooth. Furthermore, no one could tell me how to navigate a startup in a pandemic. I’ve had to pave the way for myself for every bump, rock, or roadblock on this journey.

My biggest struggle to date has been hiring. I would’ve never imagined living through a Great Resignation in my wildest dream. Having the work and not the help haunts me. In addition to having a hard time finding employees, I’m having a harder time getting many consumers to understand I’m just one person running a show that requires at least four participants. Many businesses, especially small business owners, are understaffed, and their employees are overworked. Sometimes I wish I could loan consumers my optics so they can see what I see.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a licensed Cosmetologist who specializes in natural hair care for children. I am known for my love of hair care and children. Styling children with autism or any disability makes me feel proud. Children with special needs are so precious and often discriminated against, and I feel like I’m a part of the village that helps tend to their needs. What sets me apart from others is now I don’t show up to work for the money but solely for the mission.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to believe in yourself unapologetically.

This is wonderful you should be proud of yourself. You should work towards developing your own hair care line. Shampoo, oils, and conditioning. Brown skin girls could always use mor hair product. Watching your journey is amazing keep up the great work. My daughter Erika is always talking great conversation about you . May you continue to be blessed Nikki.

Ohhh this is soooo exciting🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉We are super proud of you! Funny, we were literally JUST talking about you yesterday and how much we miss you😘 Still very challenging to find someone as talented, professional and as loving as you are! Your boy always compares everyone to you and then completes the sentence with a “Man, she was the BEST Ma, I really miss her!” You’re such a jewel and we wish you much success! If we’re ever in that area, we will definitely come by for our hugs🥰🥰🥰

    Much Love,
    💜💜💜💜💜Candace and Kendred💜💜💜💜💜
