Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra Baker.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I have been in the industry for quite some years as an actress doing extra work and features; nonetheless, discovering the art of rapping was always intriguing! The flow, sound, and beat make a big difference in music, and I wanted to learn more about the craft! Once I finally realized that there are different types of rappers, I wanted to become just that! At first now, I didn’t think I could do it! I would try to come up with lyrics to beats and messed up badly! But I kept going and going and going, and it is still going. I was assisted and helped with lyrics and beats by my husband, who is also a Rap Artist (NLBU Slim)! With support from my real friends and family, I felt perfect that I had learned to flow and present myself as a female rap artist! It also helps me win a few awards! Which I’m honored! I honestly feel like it takes time to learn and master something so passionate! I appreciate the learning process, and you can never speed up a craft. You get better and better! Being an actress helped me become who I am as a rapper! If I can learn lines from a script, I can use lyrics from a beat! Although nothing is ever easy, not having full support at the beginning of my process as a rapper was an obstacle, and I say this only because you must have the mental ability to be in the industry! It’s tough sometimes, mainly when others compete, not knowing We don’t have to be!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not a smooth process because I received negative backlash, and people didn’t know me or appreciate what I wanted to do! I felt I was nothing to them and was big on support, but I was not getting a lot of it at the beginning of my becoming a female rap artist and host! I had to learn to believe in myself more than I wanted support! Although challenging, it has become a big part of my life! I live performing and networking! I have met so many dope artists, entertainers, and music gurus who now support and appreciate what I love to do! It means a lot, and it helps the mental😊🩷
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an award-winning female rap artist and a digital show host (CityTalk w/ PinkLash). I am also an entrepreneur! I am my brand PinkLash! I am proud of myself because I have been determined and dedicated to building myself as an artist, host, and person! As I stated earlier, I have gotten negative backlash from people who didn’t believe in me! But I don’t care. I stopped worrying about who supported me and started working toward my goal and mastering my craft! Everyone isn’t going to like or help you! But don’t ever let that stop you! I decided that I could do anything I put my mind and hard work into! What sets me apart from others is that nobody can be me; I am the only one in the world! I am PinkLash, somebody who is worth everything and more! I had to build myself up when others would put me down! I am determined and dedicated to proving, not to the world but to myself, that I am good enough, and that’s it🩷💯
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising that most people don’t know about me is that I started as an actress in the industry!
