Check Out Christina Munsey’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Munsey

Hi Christina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in North Carolina in a non-musical family, but my dad has always had a deep love for music that shaped my early influences—Fleetwood Mac, Simon & Garfunkel, and other legends. Even though I wasn’t surrounded by musicians, I always felt drawn to songwriting and storytelling.

I knew music was what I wanted to do so I took a leap of faith and pursued it full-time, despite the doubts and judgment from others. My dad’s advice stuck with me: “If you find a job you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.”

I started building my career independently—writing, producing, and sharing my music. Over time, my songs found their way into TV shows and film, and I’ve also landed sync deals with Sony BMG Production Music and Warner Chappell Production Music, which has opened doors in the sync world.

Beyond music, I love visual storytelling, so I’ve been creating content that blends my passion for music, aesthetics, and storytelling—whether that’s reimagining songs in my If This Elton John Song Was Sung by a Girl series, or writing original music inspired by shows like The Summer I Turned Pretty.

It’s been a journey of persistence, learning, and staying true to my voice, and I’m excited for what’s next!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s true for anyone chasing something they love. Pursuing music full-time as an independent artist comes with its challenges—self-doubt and constantly having to prove yourself. There’s no set path, and that uncertainty can be both exciting and terrifying.

One of the biggest struggles was stepping into an industry where I didn’t have built-in connections. I didn’t have a roadmap to follow, so I had to learn everything—songwriting, production, marketing, and even the business side—on my own. There were plenty of times when I questioned if I was making the right choice, especially when people around me didn’t understand why I was taking this leap.

Another challenge has been breaking into sync licensing. Getting placements in TV and film takes patience, and there were years of sending songs out and hearing nothing. But when some of my songs finally landed placements in film and started gaining traction, it was a reminder that persistence pays off.

The pressure to constantly create, promote, and stay relevant can be overwhelming, but I’ve learned to focus on making art that feels authentic to me rather than chasing trends.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I write pop-folk singer-songwriter music, weaving together raw emotion and vivid storytelling through acoustic-driven melodies. My sound is intimate yet cinematic—think heartfelt lyrics, warm harmonies, and songs that feel like they belong in your favorite coming-of-age movie. I love capturing moments, turning feelings into melodies, and crafting music that makes people feel seen. If you love folk storytelling with a modern edge, you’re in the right place.

Beyond the numbers, what I’m most proud of is staying true to my sound and vision, even with the challenges of being an independent artist. I’ve never wanted to chase trends—I just want to create music that feels real to me. Every song I write holds a piece of my heart, and knowing that it connects with people means everything to me. I’m building something genuine, something that lasts, and that’s what matters most to me.

What’s next?
I’m always looking for ways to grow as an artist, and right now, I’m focusing on writing more music and expanding the ways I connect with listeners. I have some new songs in the works that I’m really excited about, and I’m also exploring more opportunities in sync licensing to get my music into TV, film, and beyond.

Beyond that, I’m planning to create more content that gives people a behind-the-scenes look at my creative process—whether it’s how I build a song from scratch or what a day in my life as an independent artist looks like. I want to share more of that journey with people in an authentic way.

I’m also hoping to play more live shows and maybe even step into new collaborations that push me outside of my comfort zone. There are a lot of unknowns, but I think that’s part of what makes this exciting. As long as I’m making music that feels honest and finding new ways to share it, I know I’m on the right path.
