Check Out Christina Reid’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Reid.

Hi Christina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2019, I participated in a Christmas gift exchange with friends and gifted my first crochet cup cozy; During this exchange, my friends inquired about purchasing more cup cozies from me. At that time, I had no intention of selling my crochet pieces. However, God had other plans! I began selling cup cozies, then beanies and scarves! Before I knew it, my hobby blossomed into my business, 5931handmade. The “5931” in my business name is the last digit of my grandma’s phone number. She taught me so much of what I know; the least I could do is honor her through my work. 5931handmade is an e-commerce store offering knit and crochet apparel, jewelry, and home decor. I offer custom and wholesale orders upon request. You will likely find me vending at a local market in the triad area on the weekend. I love to interact with my customers face-to-face when I can!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I started my business, I only offered winter apparel (beanies, headbands, and scarves). As the warm weather approached, I realized I would need to create something to sustain my business throughout the summer months. I decided I would learn how to make jewelry. After much trial and error, I created a collection of rings, beaded bracelets, and earrings. During this time, I learned how important it is to remain flexible and open to new ideas.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create knit and crochet apparel, including beanies, headbands, scarves, and summer tops; I also make handcrafted rings, aromatherapy bracelets, macrame earrings, and faux leather earrings. I also sell crochet plant holders and leather plant hangers as a part of my home decor collection. Most recently, I began offering a custom jewelry bar at local craft markets. My customers have the opportunity to create their ring or nose cuff. They can choose a stone and metal finish, and I will make the ring and nose cuff for them on-site. I am very excited to provide this unique experience to my customers!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
I draw a lot of my inspiration from Pinterest for my handmade pieces. Although I am not an avid user of TikTok, it is a great learning resource for me!
