Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Stroman.

Hi Crystal, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed cooking and baking for the people I love. Every since I was a little girl and I would sit in the corner of the kitchen shyly watching my grandmothers, aunts, and mother of preparing food while laughing, telling stories, reminiscing on the “good ole days” and taking this time to bond with each other and take a moment away from the business of raising families and day to day life. I have always admired how food is such an embedded part of culture, family, friendship, and happiness. Inspired by those happy childhood memories, a few years ago I decided to try my hand at creating treats and sharing them with friends and family.

Fast forward a few years, and I would always volunteer to bring treats I made to gatherings with friends and family. Cupcakes, cakes, anything sweet I was the person to call! Through making treats for my family and friends, I was able to reignite my love of baking from my childhood and decided to create my own business.

I pride myself on using my creativity in all aspects of life, my passion for baking and cooking, and the tools I learned from childhood to bake for others’ special moments and sweet bursts of happiness alike. Made by Crystal (with love) XO is more than just a name. It was birthed from my childhood memories of watching my family show their love through food and sweets and my continued love for making treats for others as a form of creativity and love.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Perseverance has always been a main part of my life story. I grew up in a very small town in Eastern North Carolina and was born to poor parents who were not fortunate enough to accomplish many of the things I have in life: a college degree, a master’s degree, traveling the world and starting a business through love and creativity. As a first-generation college student, it has not always been easy to navigate the world away from my hometown and make a place for myself, but I have persevered through many of those struggles and came out stronger on the other side.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I own and operate Made By Crystal, XO located in Raleigh, North Carolina. My business specializes in cupcakes, cakes, and all things sweet to fill your sweet tooth! I am most known for my custom cupcakes, cakecicles, and cakes.

I am most proud of my ability to build my business from scratch and grow my customer base. I also value creativity greatly and am so happy to be able to create beautiful treats for the special moments in my customer’s lives.

Food is a large aspect of our culture, and the food we choose to eat plays an important role in our lives. Rather it be a birthday party, a wedding, a family celebration, or a moment to treat yourself, I am most proud of being asked to be a pivotal part of so many people’s special moments.

Made By Crystal, XO specializes in creating sweet treats that not only look great but taste amazing as well. With a bit of love placed into every bite!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I am very passionate about creating and being able to create sweet treats for others to enjoy. I truly feel that I am blessed to be able to say my business and baking is my passion in life, and am so grateful to everyone who worked with me.
