Check Out Devana Turner’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devana Turner

Hi Devana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Devana Turner, and I graduated from the illustrious North Carolina A&T State University with a degree in bioengineering. During my time at NCAT, I fully immersed myself in various forms of creativity and had my first-ever content creation partnerships on campus.

After graduating, I worked at Google as a software engineering recruiter and a Google Ads consultant. This experience afforded me the opportunity to move to New York, where I further explored content creation and fashion.

I moved back to North Carolina in 2022, and the following year, I was laid off. This unexpected turn allowed me to focus on content creation full-time. Since then, I’ve dedicated my creativity to helping women feel their most confident by providing outfit concepts and ideas. I encourage women to embrace the changes that happen to their bodies as they get older and experience size fluctuations.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest challenge has been transitioning from working full-time to being a full-time content creator. This field requires a lot of confidence, patience, and perseverance. There’s no such thing as instant gratification in this industry, and even with getting paid, payments can take anywhere from 30 to 90 days. So, although my audience might see my paid partnerships immediately, I might not see the payment for 30, 60, or even 90 days.

You must have a passion for what you do because simply wanting to be known or liked on social media isn’t enough to push you through the weeks or months when things are slower.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am most proud of how my content makes other women like me feel. Once, a follower approached me in public and elaborated on how much my content meant to her. She talked about being a new mother and how adjusting to her new body was difficult, but my confidence gave her the motivation to start wearing and styling her clothes again. She uses my outfits as inspiration.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Being a full-time content creator is risky in itself. If you’re not careful and don’t have safeguards in place, you could lose your account tomorrow, and that’s literally your bread and butter. Your account is what makes you marketable to many brands. But without risk, there is no reward. I understand how financially risky this industry is, but I’m still very dedicated to being successful as a content creator. I know this is God’s plan for me.
