Today we’d like to introduce you to Haddy Badjan
Hi Haddy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started out as a CNA in 2019 working in geriatrics.I always knew I was passionate about maternal health but wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to focus on. In 2021 I began working at a high risk hospital on Labor and Delivery and met a doula while there who inspired me to become a doula myself! I became certified for both labor and postpartum doula work in 2022. I’ve done both since then and have thoroughly enjoyed all the people and experiences that I’ve worked with and had so far! I also just completed my prenatal yoga instructor certification so I’m excited to begin that journey as well! I believe that we have a long way to go with how pregnant people are supported in this country, especially women of color so I’m on a mission to share all the knowledge and support that I can!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Something I struggled with was learning that for some people support simply looks like just having a person to bounce their ideas off of or offer words of encouragement. When I first started I would often try to offer everything that I could but I quickly realized that everybody is different and that I would need to tailor my help to fit what specific clients were looking for!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a doula, I have enjoyed being able to help families get ready to meet their babies and help them find a routine during the postpartum period. It’s just something so wonderful about knowing that you were able to offer the support and guidance that someone needed to feel confident about their labor/postpartum experience. I remember every baby and family that I have gotten to help and they’ll always have a special place in my heart. Something that sets me a part from most doulas is that I have my CNA license and healthcare experience to back up my doula knowledge as well. I hope to one day become a midwife so I stay up to date with all new info both in the healthcare world and in the doula world as much as I can so that I can always be a great asset to my clients.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I have learned that it’s important to me to keep myself and my clients safe so I always mask up! Being sick while pregnant or with a newborn at home is not ideal so taking all precautions at work and outside of work is a necessity for me!
