Today we’d like to introduce you to Hope Roberts.
Hi Hope, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Hope Roberts. I was born in Durham, North Carolina, but my family originally is from Wilmington. In May 2023, I founded a social group called Black Women Thriving.
This group emerged out of my personal experiences where I felt the need for a safe space for black women without limitations. I went through a divorce in 2020. Since then, our group has grown from six to twenty-three members in the last 11 months. Black Women Thriving strives to promote wellness in every aspect physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and emotionally.
Black Women Thriving is proudly designed to empower and uplift black women who are determined to navigate through life and become the best version of themselves. Trust us; we’ve got all the tools and resources you need to conquer life’s hurdles with confidence and determination.
We have also launched sub-groups like a bible study, art club, fitness club, and our most popular book club. I wanted the ladies to have a central location where they could access all types of clubs and activities without having to join additional groups and find like-minded women to do life with.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a challenging journey for me to launch Black Women Thriving. Initially, I felt the pressure to keep up with other groups and accomplish too much too quickly.
However, I gradually realized that I needed to define the social group’s purpose and give myself some leeway. This isn’t my group this is our group.
Initially, I had an administrative team consisting of five ladies, but due to their life obligations, they had to step back, which is completely understandable. Consequently, I am currently coordinating all events, memberships, social media, and overall operations of the social group. I am enthusiastic about the future, and all members are always ready to help and provide great suggestions and advice, which make planning so much easier.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have been working in the healthcare system for over five years and have always placed great value on patient care and the advancements in technology that can help us provide better care. I work in the Department of Surgery, where I support physicians and faculty.
I am known for my friendly nature and sense of humor. I am detail-oriented and highly organized, especially when it comes to my friends and family. I love celebrating people’s birthdays, and gift-giving is my love language.
I am most proud of Black Women Thriving, a social group that celebrates the strength and resilience of black women as mothers, sisters, friends, and so much more. What sets me apart is my genuine desire to help and support others, no matter the time or day, and my unwavering commitment to their well-being.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The COVID-19 pandemic has taught me the importance of creativity, perseverance, and adaptability. When faced with challenges, it’s important to keep going by exploring different routes and options. However, the most significant lesson I have learned is the value of spending time with loved ones and creating lasting memories.
