Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Johnston. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Jeff Johnston is a poet and artist with 27 books currently available on Amazon and more in process. He writes organically when the words come through from a higher source and must escape to the written page. His personal experience with Clinical Depression and Anxiety since 2011 has been seen in his writing, and he’s been told his words have been beneficial to many who also seek their own peace of mind. He is also an actor of 30 years with Film, Television, and Theater credits and has been represented by JTA Talent Agency in Charlotte, NC, since 2002. He also writes and plays music and has submitted songs to various national artists over the years. His art, which he calls “creations by JEFF,” can currently be seen at RAVENS CUP COFFEE & ART GALLERY in La Conner, Washington. His websites include PoextS.com and JeffJohnstonActor.com. He currently resides in Concord, NC, USA.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am not sure any artist has had a “smooth road.” I think this is the impetus for finding and creating their art. For me, the battle with Depression since 2011 has been a considerable struggle at times. However, from this pain, I have found my voice stronger in my long poetry and my poetic soundbites I created and call POEXTS. I believe the pressures we allow to build in ourselves can have a devastating effect on our minds if not addressed. If we let them build inside, we are heading for an explosion that will not be pretty. With our art, we are able to release the pressure in whatever form we take and move on to the next day.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have worked on eliminating the essential “knee-jerk reaction” to anything that comes my way. My writing, my art, my music are organic. I do not sit “to do.” I allow myself the freedom of being open to the source energy around me and am inspired to produce. Throught the years of reading and listening to the likes of Thich Nhat Hahn, Eckhart Tolle, Dr. Joe Dispenza, and Abraham Hicks, and throught the practice of meditation, I have learned to be more aware of my thoughts and actions. It allows me to be open the “higher power,” which then comes through me in what I do. I can write a poem about anything, but it bores me. I see something, hear something, smell something, and words become in my head, and they must be put down and aligned. My day job, I sell cars, and one day a woman in our office asked me, “Why are you happy all the time?” I responded, “Because it is more fun than not being happy.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
The practice I have come to believe in is to know what you want, even if general, feel satisfaction in knowing it is in the universe, and allow it to come when I am ready for it to arrive. I do what I do, and if and when the world wants to recognize, cool! Was it lucky that you sent me an invite to interview me? LOL
