Today we’d like to introduce you to Joan Randall
Hi Joan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
To tell you how I got here, I have to take you back. I came to the United States 35 years ago, carrying with me dreams of a new life. I married a man who turned out to be abusive, subjecting me to unimaginable hardships. For seven long years, I endured the torment, but one day, I found the courage to run away with my two daughters. My only hope was to show them that such a life was unacceptable for any woman or man.
Filled with hopes and dreams of a better future, I left but soon faced insurmountable odds. Setbacks, hurdles, disappointments, and pain led to a dark period in my life. Yet, through faith, perseverance, and the unwavering will to provide a better life for my children, I managed to turn things around. I dedicated myself to being the best mother and role model for my daughters.
I worked tirelessly at my career, spending 25 years with a company that taught me invaluable lessons about leadership. I achieved the success I had aimed for, but after 25 years, the job no longer fulfilled me. I knew it was time for a change, and thus began my journey into entrepreneurship.
Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. Transitioning from a corporate job to running my own business was a stark contrast. The first three years were what I call the discovery phase. I was trying to find myself as a business owner, understand my audience and their needs, and create the products and services they desired. I made more mistakes than successes, but an innate drive kept me pushing forward.
In the fourth year, I decided to pivot to full-time publishing. This is where things truly started to happen. The rubber met the road, and I began to feel like a true business owner. Today, I am proud to say I am an internationally recognized, award-winning publisher, a multi-best-selling author, an international speaker, and a master coach.
This journey has been one of faith, resilience, and unwavering determination. I stand here now not just as a survivor but as a testament to the power of perseverance and the pursuit of one’s purpose. Through all the challenges, I have emerged victorious, ready to inspire and guide others on their own journeys.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I believe that life is rarely smooth. Challenges, setbacks, and hurdles define the strength and character of a leader. Viewing temporary losses as lessons allows us to dig deep and assess our strengths and emotional capacity to continue the journey.
When COVID hit six months after I started my publishing business, I panicked because I didn’t know what the future held. However, what I thought would be a lack of business turned into an abundance. This is where my challenges truly began.
I was running the publishing business with just myself as the publisher, one editor, and a project manager. Business grew so fast that my challenge became finding the support needed to sustain it. I quickly realized I lacked the systems, processes, and SOPs to run smoothly and efficiently. I ended up doing triple the work because I had to touch every part of the client’s journey. This means I was working constantly in the business and not on the business.
Additionally, I needed to find editors, graphic designers, and formatters who shared my core values and mindset to join my company. Finding the right talent and creating a smooth and efficient system took a long time. But perseverance and a commitment to excellence eventually led to the right business model for us.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As Joan T. Randall, I proudly serve as the president of Joan T. Randall Enterprise LLC, founder of Victorious You Press, and creator of Book 2 Business & Beyond®. My journey has been marked by accomplishments and recognitions that I cherish deeply. I am an award-winning independent publisher, internationally recognized speaker, and multi-best-selling author.
Victorious You Press is a publishing leader specializing in nonfiction books for authors who desire to transform their unique voices into influential, market-ready works. Through expert coaching, strategic marketing, and personalized consultation, VYP unearths the true potential of each author’s content, guiding them to publish, inspire, and impact the world.
In addition to my entrepreneurial ventures, I am the Co-Executive and HR Director of The Boost Pad, a non-profit organization that empowers underrepresented early-stage founders by providing essential training and resources. This role underscores my commitment to fostering impactful businesses and enhancing economic mobility in Charlotte, NC. I also had the honor of serving as the Publishing Director for Nehemiah Entrepreneurship Community, a global organization dedicated to biblical entrepreneurship across five continents and forty-four countries.
As a distinguished publisher, I aim to empower entrepreneurs and mission-driven leaders to transform their stories into powerful tools for impact and influence. From the inception of my publishing business, I have leveraged the concept of one book to generate multiple offers, even producing a collaborative book that was adapted into a film.
Over the past five years, I have guided over 42 authors in transforming their books into thriving businesses, creating a legacy of lasting impact for future generations. At the end of 2024, we will add 20 new authors to the Books2Business&Beyond® strategy–a personal strategy I created and trademarked in 2021. Now I teach it.
What sets me and my company apart is our core values:
Four powerful tenants help us stand out from the others. They are:
LEARN – We are certified in every aspect of the process to deliver the best service.
LOVE – Love translates to building authentic and intentional relationships, not just transactions.
LEAD – We teach our clients what we know and empower them to win.
LEGACY – We want to give you a lasting impression even after the contract ends.
My contributions have earned me numerous regional and international awards. My expertise has been showcased on major networks like ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox, and I was honored as a Career-Mastered Top Entrepreneurial Woman to Watch in 2023.
I hold a Women’s Entrepreneurship Certificate from Cornell University, a Certificate in Homiletics from Howard University, and a Certificate in Christian Leadership from Global Impact University.
My achievements have been recognized with an Executive Citation from the citizens of Anne Arundel County in Maryland, a Citation from State Attorney General Wes Adams, and a County Council Citation from Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
In 2020, I was ordained as an Elder in I Believe God Ministries International and currently serve as the International Director of the Women’s Ministry. My influence spans globally, and I am now celebrating the third season of my acclaimed weekly show on Global Impact TV, “Women of the Bible.”
Driven by a passion for philanthropy and missions, I traveled to Kenya in 2021 with Prince Patrice Tsague, the Nehemiah Entrepreneurship Global Community founder, to speak to a group of accomplished professionals and entrepreneurs about the transformative power of writing. I returned to Kenya in 2023 for a mission trip in Kitale, aiming to empower, inspire, and support youth initiatives.
In 2023, I established the Tricia Wynn Payne scholarship fund to support Title 1 schools in underserved communities in Charlotte, NC, and Jamaica. This scholarship fund aims to help these schools establish literary departments and introduce young minds to the creative world of The Power of The Pen.
I am proud to be a mother of two amazing women and a grandmother to four incredible grandchildren.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I get overwhelmed and slightly terrified by the vastness of the ocean and the close proximity to giant mountains. LOL! They scare me–and I am from the Islands. What an oxymoron. LOL
