Check Out Johnny Abraham ’s Story

We’d like to introduce to you Johnny “Jay Abe” Abraham.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started playing the piano very young at the age of 5. My aunt bought me a toy keyboard as a Christmas gift and I fell in love with it. I started out self-taught and learned how to play the piano by ear. I would take all of my dad’s cassette tapes and try to play exactly what I heard the music doing. By the time I was 12 years old, I was playing the piano for my church. Then by age 13, I was taught how to produce and record music in the studio with my mentor at the time, Jerry Swindell Jr. I’ve been blessed to work with so many incredible artists since then. I’ve produced, played keyboards, and recorded projects with a few artists/bands such as: Actual Proof, Queens Guard, Karen Poole, Saint Smith, and many more.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It certainly hasn’t been easy. One of the biggest struggles for me was finding my own identity in music. I had learned piano and production by studying and even mimicking what my idols were doing. But at some point, I realized that I didn’t really have my own style or “sound”. I had to spend a lot of time improving my skill overall through hours of piano practice, learning new production techniques, etc. I even took a few music classes in college to study the history and appreciation of my instrument. I do believe though, that all of the struggles I faced were just making me a better person altogether.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an artist, music producer, and keyboardist. I am the owner of Jay Abe 2 Music. In September of 2018, I released my first single “California”. Since then, I’ve released 4 more songs: “I.L.Y”, “Good Vibes Only”, “Feel Love”, and his most recent single, “Juice”. I’m currently producing projects for artists and also working on my first album. One of my proudest moments in my career was being able to work with Anthony Hamilton on a song for the 2020 Trumpet Awards.

I believe what makes me different is that I am fearless in my music. I’m not afraid to try new things. That’s the only way one can become better.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Trust your FIRST idea. Never focus on if others will like it or if it “makes sense”. Sometimes, that very first idea that comes to mind in the creative process is what will set you apart from others. It took me a long time to understand that, but I’m glad I do now.
