Check Out Kaylin La’She’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylin La’She.

Hi Kaylin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. Growing up in a single-parent household with two other siblings on my mom’s side and as well as two siblings on my dad’s side. I would like to say that my life has taught me so much early on. I was a very shy, timid, and still, is an introverted person being that I had moved schools at least every grade year up until high school where I attended all four years.

It caused me to struggle with social anxiety all the way up into college. Being that, my mom was trying to raise kids on our own, while being in school and going to work. I did see a little bit of a struggle growing up and my mom raised us correctly but now that I am older I can see that she was not really able to be there for her kids emotionally but more so played the provider role for me and my siblings.

We have lived with other relatives and I will say that even when my mother was not able to give us the best, she still tried her best to make sure we had everything we needed and raised us up with morals that I live by today. My life journey and my own personal trials and tribulations definitely started once I was a sophomore in high school. Being that I was socially introverted and anxious, I never knew how to start a friendship but my friends that I have now or had had always clung to or reached out to me.

I had friends that were into smoking marijuana and drinking and I was never interested in those things at the time and still am the same way to this day, but I now realized that I was sociable with recreational use, just because of the friends I hung with was doing it. My mom hates drugs and alcohol so I have gotten in trouble for it whenever I had gotten caught. My mom also was never really the type of parent to let me go out to parties.

I could only go to the games that were played at school or any games that I was playing. I did play tennis, cheer, ran track and field, and danced in school. Looking back at my age now, I am very much so appreciative of the way my mom was protecting me, even though at the time I felt as though she was too strict and never wanted me to have fun.

I know I said that I grew up seeing the struggle a little bit but without the help of my family such as my aunt and grandmother helping with shelter and providing financially. I’d like to say I have the best of both worlds. My grandmother on my dad’s side was financially well off, like millions. So, I am used to the country club outings and meetings with people that are financially well off like herself.

My grandmother helped me through pageantry, modeling and acting school, college as well as esthetician school, which in fact are all the things I love to do and plan to make income off of. I am amongst the strongest women that have been a victim of sexual and domestic assault and have used all of my pain to turn it into power.

I love helping victims who have suffered the same thing as well as helping people feel beautiful inside and out through my own story as well as through my business.

I started my own business my sophomore year in college doing eyelash extensions & makeup my senior year to help support me financially through school which led me to join esthetician school currently. I plan to start many other business ventures as well that are currently in the works!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all but I appreciate the lessons that this life has taught me thus far, it has molded me into the woman that I am and plan to be.

I mentioned most of my struggles in the first question such as depression, anxiety, a sexual and domestic assault that took counseling, that I honestly did not like, but most importantly deep spiritual inner work to heal myself to gain the peace that I have now.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am currently the owner of an Esthetics and Makeup business where I plan to expand into different services soon like waxing, threading, brow sculpting, and facials but I currently provide services such as eyelash extensions, makeup, and as well as a raw Indian hair supplier.

I also model and act and want to help others with the same dreams as such. I am into fashion, design, and styling and I have worked alongside Charity Washington at Captivate in Charlotte at Southpark Mall. I believe that my drive to be the best that I can be and to keep going against adversity and my creative aspects sets me apart from most.

I am honestly blessed in ways sometimes that appear to be overwhelming times but I am most proud of the drive that I have within me to never let anyone come between my vision and goals in life and to keep going even when I feel like giving up.

I have been rewarded greatly with this heart of mine.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I am born and raised in Raleigh and the things I like the most about it are the opportunities that have presented themselves to me that have allowed me to grow and reach my fullest potential. Such as school and college at NCCU where I studied fashion and design during my freshmen year, teaching me how to sew.

I believe that Raleigh has so much talent and the ability to be bigger than what it is now and the thing that I like the least about it is that there is not as much opportunity here as it should be, being that it is the state’s capital. I honestly have contemplated so many times leaving this city behind.

Which is one of the main reasons I decided to attend UNC, Charlotte because I knew I would be able to network better out there and that is exactly what I did and brought it back to Raleigh. I know Raleigh will grow within the next 3-5 years and I plan to add and be a part of my city’s growth.
