Check Out Kristel and Chris Patterson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristel and Chris Patterson.

Hi Kristel and Chris, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Back in 2015, we were shopping at a dept store and came across their candle isle. As we walked down, smelling them, one caught our attention. We smelled it and decided to purchase it immediately. We got to the check-out lane and realized that it was almost $30! In our moment of irritation, we wondered if there was a way to make our own. After we went home, we started researching candle-making, which then led to purchasing a candle-making kit. We started making some for the house, then for family as gifts and the word spread to co-workers and so on.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish we could say that it has been easy, but in reality, it has been a struggle. We’ve experienced times with decreased sales, disagreements on product designs and fragrances. But, despite those setbacks, we continue to press forward slow days and all!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I (Chris) am IT Support Specialist by day and a candle maker by night! I ( Kristel) am a stay at home Mom of three beautiful kids, 2 boys and a beautiful baby girl our  newest addition, all under the age of 5.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I wish We could say that we had a mentor in this business but unfortunately we have not found one. We have to stay up to date on the latest blogs, newsletters, email list and trainings to keep learning and growing our craft. Lots of time and Patience!!! We would say keep focused on something that you positively love. If you love it then you won’t mind working for it! There is always room grow and Always something to learn!!
