Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakisha Gilbert
Hi Lakisha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Lakisha grew up in Apex, NC, and currently resides in Raleigh, NC. A mom of 4 daughters, She currently resides in Raleigh, NC with her youngest daughter. Lakisha has over 13 years of professional experience in cosmetology. Since 2008 Lakisha has served individuals who sought after quality work, exceptional client service, and dedication from a hairstylist. She has also taught in the beauty industry for the last 9 years and this role has aided in the passing of NC Cosmetic Arts board examinations for numerous individuals. She has worked in several salons in the Raleigh area not only as a hair stylist, but she has worked in roles as a consultant, salon manager, receptionist, as well as shampoo tech. In these positions, Lakisha gained great insight on how to make a salon a very welcoming place for clients to come, a rewarding place for stylists to work, and a workspace that runs smoothly and harmoniously.
Lakisha’s experience as Senior Stylist at the beautiful Locs Naturals & More Hair Salon (LN&M) located in Garner NC was the catapult that was needed to propel her to her current endeavor of career coaching professionals and helping them achieve their goals. She also enjoys working with individuals who are not professionals who seek a more up close and personal experience in learning hair car
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It wasn’t a smooth journey to get where I am today. Attending cosmetology school as a single mother, balancing studies, childcare, and the financial pressures of independent living was incredibly demanding but I persevered. Today as a licensed master stylist and salon owner, my primary focus is to provide exceptional hair care services to every client.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Coil Culture, we will always focus on excellent client care and exceptional hair care services, With that said we are currently working on presenting a podcast discussing matters important to the african american hair salon so stay tuned and connected.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The industry is headed in an exciting direction with a generation of new artists creating innovative ideas in the beauty world. I’m excited to embrace these changes and incorporate them into the salon. I also see the hair industry being integrated with wellness and becoming a part of the conversation in mental health , socially it not only brings black and brown families together but blended families as well. Many brands along with salons will prioritize social impact, supporting local communities, charitable causes, and promoting diversity and inclusivity.
