LaQuetta, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
About Me:
I became a licensed hairstylist in 2004 after graduating from Fort Pierce Beauty Academy in Fort Pierce, Florida, in 2003. My career began with a focus on booth rental, but I soon transitioned to corporate settings, specializing in men’s haircuts. I joined Great Clips in 2012 and later moved to Sport Clips in 2015. However, in 2017, I decided to branch out on my own and established Gabella’s Hair Studio in March 2017.
The name “Gabella’s ” comes from combining the names of my children—Gabriel and Isabella. This business venture allowed me to take control of my career and finances after realizing that corporate and franchise environments offered minimal returns for my work.
Specializations:
I specialize in men’s haircuts and am certified in Brazilian blowouts, offering a variety of services that also include women’s and children’s haircuts. My salon is multicultural, welcoming clients of all nationalities. My passion lies in providing efficient and stylish haircuts for men, as they tend to be less particular and appreciate getting in and out quickly. I also love performing blowouts, focusing on maintaining healthy hair and promoting growth.
Education and Future Goals:
In addition to my hairstyling career, I am a special education teacher with plans to obtain my teaching license in 2026. Working with children, especially those with special needs, is incredibly fulfilling for me. I specialize in haircuts for kids, including those on the autism spectrum, adapting my techniques as needed. Sometimes, this means cutting hair on the floor to meet their comfort requirements.
My goal is to create a positive and peaceful atmosphere for my clients, many of whom see us as their therapists. I strive to make them feel comfortable and happy throughout their transformations, focusing on the healthy hair side of styling.
Family and Future Aspirations:
I aspire to teach my children the business, with a vision for them to eventually take over Gabella’s Hair Studio. My son is currently 10, and I plan to enroll him in barber school when he turns 16, preparing him to carry on the family legacy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As a business owner, one of the biggest challenges I face is maintaining a consistent client base. There were times when I thought about giving up and closing my business. However, I reminded myself that I had already invested so much time and effort, so I pushed through the difficulties and made it work.
I am grateful to the building owner, who has been incredibly supportive during my journey. Balancing my business with my personal life was a significant struggle, especially during my marriage, which involved domestic violence. Now that I am free from that situation, I can focus more on my business and its growth.
Despite the challenges, doing hair and serving my clients has been a motivating force for me. I didn’t want to give up on them, and I also want to set a strong example for my children. I want them to understand that even when things get tough, perseverance is key. There is always a finish line if you keep pushing forward.
I’ve started from the ground up without much help, and I dedicated myself to learning everything I could online. I sought advice from others and gradually figured things out on my own.
While I currently work part-time because I’m a single mom and need additional income, my goal is to grow my business into a full-time endeavor. I believe in the importance of resilience and using challenges as opportunities for growth, both for my business and for the future I’m building for my family.

As a licensed hairstylist, I specialize in men’s, women’s, and children’s haircuts. I am also certified in Brazilian blowouts and skilled in using Wahl clippers. What truly sets gabella’s Hair Studio apart is my commitment to providing a unique and inclusive experience for all my clients.
One of my passions is working with children, especially those who are biracial. As a parent of biracial children myself, I understand the challenges many parents face in caring for mixed-textured hair. I create a welcoming and understanding environment for these families, ensuring they feel comfortable and supported in their hair care journey.
My approach to working with children is rooted in patience and empathy. I strive to make their visits enjoyable, whether that means engaging them in conversation or simply allowing them to relax and hang out during their appointment. I also offer loyalty programs to reward my clients for their continued support.
