Today we’d like to introduce you to Lenka Kasprisinova.
Hi Lenka, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I discovered a profound connection with the world of art from an early age. From the moment I picked up a brush, a world of possibilities unfolded before my eyes. Growing up in Slovakia, I found inspiration in the everyday scenes of life — translating them onto paper and into sculpture with an ability to capture the essence of each moment.
Encouraged by supportive parents, I continued to refine my skills through both formal education and self-discovery. Over time, my creative path led me to hand-built ceramic art, where I found the perfect medium to merge my love for nature and sculpture.
Today, I create one-of-a-kind handmade clay flower sculptures — delicate yet enduring botanical pieces that celebrate the beauty of imperfection, craftsmanship, and the timeless connection between art and nature.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like most creative journeys, there have been plenty of ups and downs—periods of self-doubt, figuring out my artistic direction, and learning how to balance the creative side with the practical side of sharing and exhibiting my work. There were times when progress felt slow or uncertain, and it wasn’t always clear what the next step should be.
A turning point for me was finding a supportive community through Fine Arts League of Cary. Being surrounded by other artists who share their experiences, offer feedback, and genuinely encourage one another made a huge difference. That sense of connection and support helped me grow in confidence and continue pushing forward, even when things felt challenging.
So while the road hasn’t been perfectly smooth, those challenges ultimately led me to the right people and opportunities—and that’s what allowed me to really move forward and thrive.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work is rooted in a deep, almost instinctive connection to clay—it’s the material that has always felt like home to me. I create one-of-a-kind clay flower sculptures, each piece entirely handmade and shaped with intention. There are no shortcuts in my process; every petal, curve, and texture is developed by hand, allowing the material to guide part of the outcome.
I’m especially drawn to botanical forms, not just for their beauty but for their resilience and quiet imperfections. The asymmetry of a bloom, the subtle irregularities in nature—those are the details that make each piece feel alive.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to translate something as simple as clay into pieces that evoke emotion and presence. I want my sculptures to invite people to slow down, to notice the small details, and to reconnect with the quiet poetry of everyday forms.
What sets my work apart is that balance between control and organic expression. I don’t aim for perfection—instead, I embrace the natural character of the material and the individuality of each piece. Every piece carries its own subtle story, shaped by hand, time, and intention.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Consistency, more than anything else. Not just in producing work, but in showing up for the process—even when inspiration isn’t immediate or things don’t turn out the way I imagined. Working with clay has taught me patience and respect for time; it doesn’t rush, and neither can I.
