Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Iris.
Hi Lucy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up between America and Europe, surrounded by a mix of cultures and sounds that shaped my voice long before I knew what to do with it. Music was my first language — my way of understanding the world and myself.
I’ve opened for artists I grew up admiring — Shania Twain, Vince Gill, Ronnie Milsap — each experience reminding me why I love what I do. One of my earliest breakthroughs came when I performed at the Grand Ole Opry — before I ever had a record deal. That night felt like fate, like I was exactly where I was meant to be.
A few years later I was moved to the Netherlands by a production group Lost Orchestra and wrote and recorded songs for my future album and also many EDM songs including a release with Tiesto under the Alias Dokmai called “Reason to Believe”. Before I knew it I was signed with 8Ball Music there in the Netherlands and released my first album Silver Lining and my single “Dear Diary,” which became a Top 5 hit.
I’ve been described as a “blues siren” with my sound blending soul, jazz, and cinematic pop — I want every song to feel like a world of its own. Music, for me, has always been about freedom. And every stage I step on, I’m chasing that feeling all over again
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finding venues that will allow me to perform and promote my original music has been a challenge. Victoria at Blue Farm to Table, graciously helped me curate “The Lucy Iris Experience” hosted June 20. Cocktails, menus items and other themes were expressed based on my new EP releases “Rose are Red” and “Do you no harm” released on digital platforms May 10th. The show was a massive success and future shows are currently being created.
Relocation to NC from the booming music scene of Central Florida in 2017, was also a potential setback as the following and network I had built in Florida was now non existent in NC. In the last three years I have secured regularly month/weekly performances at several locations with some of my favorite spots being The Botanical Lounge and Leo’s Italian social in Raleigh NC, Baxter’s 1892 in New Bern NC, and Nino’s Cucina in Greenville NC.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a singer songwriter that performs in the southeast at lounges, clubs, wineries, weddings, private parties, charities, theme parks, and everywhere people gather that want to have a uniquely tailored once in a lifetime music experience. I thrive in audience participation.
While I’m grateful to perform at festivals all over the world, Disney and Universal theme parks entertaining large crowds, I cherish working in small intimate venues which allow me to provide a more personal impact on people’s lives. I engage my audience as we are all sitting in one big living room enjoying each other’s company and creating memories together.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I won my first talent show at the age of 5 singing “Make it happen” by Mariah Carey.
In addition to singing pop, jazz, and many other classic styles I sing broadway, opera, and yodel.
At the age of 13 I auditioned for Douglas Anderson School of the Arts to study vocal music along side standard subjects. As a student there I fell in love with performing Opera as a soprano and developed my foundation as a jazz singer.
Growing up my parents had country music playing as a staple in our home. I learned to love Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard, and Hank Williams Sr. While I love country music I was always looking for a youth role model like Leann Rhimes, who released” Cowboys Sweetheart”. When participating in the Colgate County Showdown in 2000, I ultimately won the national title of Best New Country Artist, singing “Cowboy Sweetheart” by Leann Rimes and “Whatever you say” by Martina McBride. Essentially yodeling all the way from Jacksonville Fl to Nashville TN. This catapulted my music career to living in the country music capital of the US.
