Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Starling.
Madison, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Madison Starling, and I am originally from Benson, NC. I am a 19-year-old Business Owner, Licensed Esthetician & Makeup Artist. I am also continuing my education every day so that I can offer more beauty/health services. My love for makeup steams from my mom & my grandmother. When I was young, I’d watch my mom put on mascara and thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen. I inherited all my artistic ability from my grandmother, who turned down a massive opportunity to be a child illustrator for children’s books in NYC! As a child, I loved makeup & art, but for some reason thought you could only do that if you were famous and had a following. As I grew up, I practiced on everyone that would let me, but I also started to think about other logical careers. I began in Radiology because I wanted to help people, and I found X-rays very cool. After a couple classes into the program, I started getting ill. Due to my illness, I started attending an excess amounts of doctor visits. I found out very quickly I wasn’t gonna be able to work in a hospital because it had gotten to the point they made my stomachache. Shortly after coming to that realization, I found The Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill! I loved my experience and all the people I had the opportunity to network with! I choose the business name to be Starling Beauty in honor of my family and late Father, Micheal Jason Starling. With me being from a small town and a family that’s undergone struggle, I know first-hand how crazy it seems to spend any money on getting professionally made up or to better skin health. What if I told you skin health is so important and there are ways to do it without breaking the bank? I want this business and the products we recommend to be affordable for everyone! The big dream is to build a huge building with more fine arts some maybe not even in the scope of beauty!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I absolutely love learning, skincare, and helping others. I’d say the only challenge I’ve had on my journey would be health-related. Working and living with a disfunction is very hard, but you can help it by taking care of yourself as best as possible and listening to your body.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
As a little girl, I had big energy and dreams. I was a very preppy cheerleader, dancer, and soccer player. I wanted to be a rock star like my dad and a painter like my grandma. I actually just started to pick those hobbies back up, but I have guitars, a ukulele, violin, & piano.
