Today we’d like to introduce you to Maleeka Alease.
Hi Maleeka, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We all have a beautiful story inside of us!
There is beauty in the struggle; I use to say that before J.Cole dropped it in his lyrics, shout out to you Cole, you’re such an inspiration.
My roots are in California with a mix of Georgia to be exact. I come from a sizable family, six girls two boys; I fall in the middle.
My childhood can be sum up too; “I don’t look like what I’ve gone through”. I’m still learning to embrace the past in its entirety. I have my “oh wow “moments when I realize certain things really had to happen for a purpose.
Let’s speed up… I lost my sister four days before my 16th birthday; was that a pivotal moment in my life. After navigating through that storm, I knew there was much more I needed to discover.
Nine years later by Faith, I packed up in moved to Georgia. No support and I just got laid off; what was I thinking? I just knew I had to leave to find my strength and voice. Why Georgia? It was my home away from home, I frequently visited there every summer or spring breaks. Finally, I mustard up enough confidence to plan the move, and off I went.
Boy! did struggle find me there; again it all worked out for my good.
Four states later, I planted a seed in Charlotte, NC; I made this my temporary home while my roots still travel to see where my final destination is.
Most will say I’ve come far with so much to be proud of. I’m not big on accolades, so I didn’t mention any on purpose. Don’t get me wrong, Gratitude moves me daily, yet humbleness remains a thorn in my flesh.
If you ask me who I am, I’ll tell you I’m the modern-day renaissance women lol … I truly believe I’M SOMEONE’S ANSWER… well, of course, that’s how I try to live my life daily.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Is the road ever smooth? Even a crack can throw you off balance. Many struggles; lack of support, w/o income, heartache, letdown, frustration, fear, and uncertainty to name a few.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Again, I consider myself to be a modern-day renaissance woman. I have a background in counseling, I also am a professional makeup artist and now an author.
I specialize in self-reflection coaching, and I’m known to be an encourager and executor
I am proud of how far I’ve come in life and how I remained anchored.
What’s sets me apart is my transparency which I believe bridges the gap
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
The Highest Creditor is The Lord himself; when I didn’t know him, he knew me! And at the age of 20. A new light guided me.
My mother, through your womb, I was housed, and through your mistakes, I was strengthened
My sister Shanita, her sacrifice in raising me and protecting me all while being a teen, I’m forever indebted.
My sister Saleeka, through her death birth an Author
My sister Tamisha she inspired and taught me the skill of Artistry hence me becoming a professional makeup artist
My sister Lavoyia, her belief and support, and slight hurt that I left home caused me to keep going and reach back to pull her up to carve her own way
My sister Lakeisha, through her early exposure of traveling and meeting the who’s who, I wanted to see more of the world.
My friend Andrew he was God’s vessel that help mature me in faith I knew nothing. However, Christ’s love flowed through him
My friend Antione he built a cornerstone for me to thrive. He became my family, my confidant, and unfailing support to help pivot me to the next phase in my life.
I’ve have come across so many souls; reasons, seasons, and lifetime. Don’t charge it to my heart if I didn’t list you, believe me, I’m thankful for you all! Those listed shifted me to the different levels in my life, and I pray that the Lord sends more shapeshifters
