Check Out Phylicia Barker’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phylicia Barker.

Hi Phylicia , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
How did I get to where I’m at now? Hard work, determination, no time off, traveling, and grandparents who paved a way for me to be successful.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For me, yes and no, even with me being a third generation Farmer. My road still has not been easy, but finding my leg in to the industry and knowing what I wanted to do has made it easy for me. So much, goes along the way; funding, having the hours within the day to do everything that needs to be done and attending meetings and still being able to know what is needed for your people. Finding a location that you can afford as a new Farm; and finding PURPOSE TO KEEP GOING,

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What I do is more than a job—it’s my purpose.

I am a third-generation farmer, a model, a marketing manager, and a Commissioner for the Town of Stovall. Each role is different, and every day brings new challenges. No two days are the same, so I take each day as it comes while staying focused on serving my community.

At the heart of everything I do is giving back. Whether I’m growing food, promoting local businesses, representing agriculture through modeling, or serving as a commissioner, my goal is always to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

The work I am most proud of is the work I do in my community. My family’s farm has been part of this community for generations, and it fills me with pride when people recognize my father and grandfather for the legacy they built. Even more meaningful is knowing that the work I have done has reflected positively on my family. When people speak highly of them because of my service, leadership, and dedication, it brings me tremendous joy.

I want to leave my community better than I found it. I hope my work inspires others to serve, to lead with compassion, and to remember that true success is measured not by titles, but by the lives we touch.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very shy. It took a special group of people to get me to open up, but once I started talking, I never stopped. Even as a child, I found comfort in creativity. I loved art, photography, drawing, and anything that allowed me to express myself. That passion for creating has stayed with me throughout my life.

I was an only child until I was eight years old, when I met my younger brother. He is just as creative as I am, and we’ve always shared that artistic spirit.

I’ve also always had a heart for helping others. Being a caregiver and serving people came naturally to me, and I was drawn to supporting those around me. Even in school, I was involved in student government and politics, which sparked a lifelong interest in public service. Looking back, I realize that serving my community has always been part of who I am. It feels like it’s been in my DNA all along.
