Hi Poonam, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Like many mom photographers, my journey began with the birth of my son. I wanted to capture every precious moment and milestone, so I picked up a camera and started taking his pictures. Determined to improve, I dove into YouTube tutorials, learning how to shoot in manual mode and take better photos. I didn’t have fancy gear or professional lighting—just a basic camera and a passion for preserving memories.

To bring my creative ideas to life, I began teaching myself Photoshop, eager to enhance my images. At first, the process felt overwhelming, but with practice and dedication, I gradually improved my skills in both photography and editing.

My journey took a pivotal turn when I met a humble wedding photographer who needed an assistant and editor. Taking a leap of faith, I left my IT career to work with him. Over time, I was promoted to second shooter, and I not only refined my technical abilities but also learned about client relationships and the business side of photography.

Finally, in 2023, I achieved a dream I’d been working toward—I started my own photography business. It’s been a journey filled with challenges and growth, and I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting from the ground up, one of the biggest challenges has been building a client base from scratch. Financial hurdles add another layer of complexity—investing in quality equipment, managing operational costs, and balancing expenses can often feel overwhelming.

There are moments when the weight of it all makes you question if it’s worth continuing. The late nights editing, the missed family moments, and the self-doubt that creeps in during quiet seasons can test even the strongest resolve. But despite the struggles, each setback becomes a lesson, and every small win serves as a reminder of why you started this journey in the first place. The path may be difficult, but the growth, fulfillment, and ability to turn a passion into a career make it all worthwhile.

I specialize in portraits, maternity, newborn, and special events, capturing life’s most precious and meaningful moments. As a photographer, my passion lies in highlighting the unique personality, beauty, and story of every individual I work with. I believe that photography is more than just taking pictures—it’s about creating a connection and telling your story in a way that feels genuine, heartfelt, and personal.

My goal is to craft images that resonate with emotion, preserving moments that you can treasure for a lifetime. Rather than following fleeting trends, I focus on creating timeless photographs that stand out, filled with authenticity and warmth.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The Covid-19 crisis taught me many valuable lessons as a photographer, both professionally and personally. It brought with it a profound shift in perspective, deepening my appreciation for the small, everyday moments that often go unnoticed. In a time of uncertainty and fear, I realized how invaluable it is to capture not only the major milestones but also the quiet, intimate moments that make life so precious.
