Hi Sarah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My home bakery started when my oldest son turned one! Think the height of a pandemic but you really want decorated sugar cookies for your son’s first birthday. Cue determined mom with a mission! Months before I practiced and practiced and just never stopped!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have been a part time and full time teacher during most of my small business journey. Just recently, God has opened some doors to allow me to stay home, continuing growing my business, while being able to be present with my boys while they are home! Working through two full time jobs while raising our family wasn’t easy but it has been so, so worth it!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in handmade, decorated sugar cookies. All items are made to order from scratch (icing and cookies!). I love experimenting with new decorating techniques and being a small part of such important celebrations for my customers! I am most proud of the relationships I have built. I have had the honor of making birthday cookies for multiple families year after year – this does not go unnoticed or unappreciated! I am so thankful!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think all businesses grow when risks are taken. For me, certain ways to grow include “leveling up” with bakery and decorating equipment. I am not normally a risk taker but have learned that time is money and if I can justify the time an upgrade with save me, it is usually worth the risk!
