Check Out Sarah Zimmer’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Zimmer

Sarah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my journey in the medical field, dedicating many years to helping others. However, the demanding nature of the job began to take a toll on me both physically and mentally. I realized that this wasn’t the path I wanted to continue on for the rest of my career.

Then, something incredible happened. I was blessed with two amazing children, with a 12-year age gap between them. My youngest son, who is now 5 years old, was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 3. This brought about a significant shift in my life. I devoted my days and nights to caring for him and meeting his unique needs.

During the first few years of his life, I was fortunate enough to be able to stay home and be there for him. However, as he grew older and started pre-k, I started worrying about my own future. How could I balance a traditional 9-5 job with the responsibilities of caring for my son? Where would he go after school? I knew that he required special attention and couldn’t be left with just anyone.

It was during this time of reflection that I discovered my passion for crafting and painting. I love transforming old and worn-out items into beautiful pieces of art. I spent countless hours wondering what I could do with my life. I prayed for guidance and one morning, it all became clear to me.

I realized that I couldn’t go on this journey alone. I needed the support of my husband, who happens to be incredibly skilled at building things. I went to him with the idea of – he would build, and I would paint. He would always say to me, I just make things, but you make them beautiful. I had this idea of making beautiful props for events. Our first project was a life sized Barbie box. The hours put into perfecting that box was absurd, but wow it was gorgeous. We now have 3!

The thought of bringing joy to people’s lives every day, instead of witnessing their sorrow, was incredibly special to me. I wanted to contribute to making someone’s special day even more memorable, by creating something with my own hands and pouring my love and energy into it. It was the perfect fit for me, and it brings immense happiness to my soul.

I am grateful to have found my true calling, and I hope to continue on this path for a long time, creating beautiful things and making a positive impact in people’s lives.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh my gosh. I learned the hard way that I can’t do everything. I wouldn’t be authentic if I said it’s been easy and every event has gone off without a hitch. I completely bombed an event once. It was the single worst day I’ve had doing this profession. I’ve never felt more horrified and sad than I did that day. I tried so hard to create something within my clients budget and the only way to do that was for myself to hand make each item instead of outsourcing. Huge mistake. I thank God that my client couldn’t have been more compassionate and understanding than the one I had that day. I hope she reads this article because she truly changed the way I do business. I will forever remember the kindness she showed me that day.

I. never wanted to be the person that said, no I can’t do that or I’m sorry but there’s no way I can create your vision within your budget. It really bothered me and it still does. To be honest, that has been the hardest part for me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Premier Party Props specializes in life size and theme prop rentals. All of our props are hand crafted with wood. We’re known for our high quality pieces. Our balloon designs are just an extra perk.

One of our favorite pieces is our life sized Magazine Cover Photo Booth. It’s massive and it’s gorgeous. The hours we poured into creating a prop of that magnitude has really made that piece special to us.

We not only offer rentals, but we also create custom pieces for purchase. We get a lot of custom orders from event planners, such as wedding planners and designers.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m having a hard time thinking of something. I may need to come back to this question
