Check Out Shaun Gray’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaun Gray.

Hi Shaun, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My story, started by growing up in the tattoo world. I have been inside tattoo studios since I was a child, and then started a body piercing apprenticeship when I was 15, then became a professional body piercer at 16 years old. After years of working for other people, I decided it was time to go out on my own.

This was back in 2011, I and a business partner opened a studio together. At this point, I was 21 years old. I was going to college, and working part-time jobs to stay afloat. Back then tattoos and piercings were not as popular as they are now. The studio is still open to this day, but I decided to sell my portion of it a few years back.

I decided I wanted to dip my feet in the corporate world. I know, a huge change! I decided to work for a big pharma company and it was great. I was making awesome money, I climbed through the ranks and it seemed like I had it all figured out. Four years into that I decided no way, I can’t do this anymore, I wanted to be back in the Tattoo Industry and it happened that the studio I co-owned prior was in need of a body piercer again.

I went back part-time and worked my pharmaceutical job for about a year and a half until I felt it was a good time to go back to piercing full time. Fast forward 3 years, I met my wife in the said studio, and have started a Travel Photography business, and a travel youtube with my wife. I once again left the studio to chase a passion for travel and photography. I’m currently in Edinburgh, Scotland writing this response.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not, I’ve worked crazy hours while going to school, made some great decisions, and some that were not. I drove less than desirable cars, missed out on the traditional college dream, I’ve felt completely lost at times, and contemplated giving up on my dreams.

With that being said I’m glad faced adversity because I do believe it has made me who I am today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been a professional body piercer for seventeen years now. I have seen the area grow and my clientele base as well. I have a great following. I’m known for being a professional and what sets me apart from others is my drive to learn and be the best.

I am also a full-time traveler/blogger/photographer now. That on its own sets me apart from a lot of people. I am currently on a full-time trip around the world with no set destinations beyond the next month or so. I specialize in moody photography.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have had so many supporters, mentors, and teammates in my career it’s hard to name just a few.

My wife is a huge supporter of almost everything I want to do, she is actually the one who convinced me to have a career change and chase my dreams. Along with her, I would have to give my family a ton of credit, my siblings are my best friends and they have always pushed me to be the best version of myself, and if I wasn’t they were there to hold me accountable.

I’ve had co-workers, and friends also really push me and help me think outside of the box.
