Check Out Stacey Rascoe’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Rascoe.

Hi Stacey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hair was something that I took an interest in at the age of 12. It was something that I was good at, so I always did it on the side throughout middle and high school. Once I went off to college at Winston-Salem State University, I decided I didn’t want to do hair anymore. My focus was on pursuing a career in nursing. I later changed my major to Exercise Science with the dream of becoming a Physical Therapist. Fast forward, finding a job in my field after graduating wasn’t easy. I decided to pursue my first love, which I thought was nursing. To make ends meet, I would do hair on the side while working a part-time job as a Dialysis Technician and attending nursing school. Nursing school was more than I expected, and I realized I was spreading myself too thin. I had to have a heart-to-heart with myself, and that’s when I realized my true purpose and passion. I only wanted to be a nurse so that I could help people. I never looked at being a cosmetologist as one who could make a difference and impact lives. Little did I know, I enrolled in cosmetology school and excelled. I would always get awards for most returning clients and top retail sales, which later helped me in my career as a cosmetologist. During this time is when I took my career in Cosmetology seriously. I began to build my clientele. Six months after graduating from cosmetology school, I was blessed with the opportunity to start my salon suite located in the heart of Downtown Durham.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road by far. Entrepreneurship always comes with challenges. I had to work extra hard to gain knowledge beyond what was taught in cosmetology school. When you choose to work for yourself, it’s up to you to make things happen. I’ve invested much in continuing education classes to stay on top of the newest trends. You also have to keep yourself motivated, especially when you don’t feel like it. Although it hasn’t been smooth, it’s been a road that I’m so blessed and grateful to be on. I’ve met so many wonderful people and transformed many people’s perspectives about their hair. Healthy hair is what I specialize in. I want everyone who leaves my salon suite to leave feeling wonderful inside and out.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My name is Stacey, but I’m known as “The Hair Savior.” I specialize in healthy natural textured hair. I also specialize in custom hair color and luxury extensions such as; Micro links, Tape-ins, and I-Tips. I’m known for growing hair regardless of the condition. Most people come to me to start a healthy hair journey. I have some clients who have experienced severe hair loss due to alopecia or other health conditions. Most of these clients have given up on their hair and come to me to restore their hair and confidence. This keeps me going and is why I’m passionate about my work. I am most proud of my approach to each client that I have, regardless of the condition their hair is in. I believe that I can help them, and they also believe in me. Nothing happens overnight. I encourage them to trust the process. What sets me apart from others is my passion and my consistency. The love is in the hair, and it shows every time. I’m completely booked every month as soon as my books open, and I’m so grateful for that. Having clients that trust you and believe in you means the world to me.

What was you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very independent and bossy, lol. I’ve always taken on leadership positions throughout my childhood. In college, I was captain of the flag team in the marching band and president of my major club. Leadership positions have always come to me naturally. When I was presented with the opportunity to become a salon owner, I felt like I was walking into my calling.
