Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Baranova
Hi Tamara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the world of tattoos didn’t begin with typical sketches on paper or the first lines drawn on skin. I started as a permanent makeup artist, specializing in brow, lip, and areola reconstruction after mastectomies. My work helped people not only regain confidence but also restore a sense of harmony and wholeness. It was a profound and meaningful experience that gave me not only technical skills but also deep emotional fulfillment in knowing that I was making a real difference in people’s lives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
However, this path wasn’t easy, and I faced challenges at every stage. Like any artist, I struggled with self-doubt and insecurity, especially when transitioning to tattooing. While permanent makeup and tattoos are similar in some ways, they require different approaches, and working with skin in tattooing is a completely different technique. I made mistakes, faced setbacks, and often wondered if I would ever reach the level I was striving for.
But it was those very mistakes that became my greatest teachers. Every failure was a step toward understanding where I could improve, and what I needed to refine. Adapting to a new style was challenging, learning to work with different tools and mastering the needle was no small task. But with every new project, I felt my confidence grow, and I began to trust not just my hands, but my instincts as an artist.
Another significant hurdle was transitioning from permanent makeup to tattoos, as many of my clients, seeing my work in one context, were hesitant to view me as a tattoo artist. Doubts from others, along with my own, sometimes felt overwhelming, but I stayed true to my goal. I aimed for my work to be not just good, but unique—something that stood out and truly added value to people’s lives.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
One of the most meaningful and challenging aspects of my work has been 3D nipple tattoos. This is not only a technically complex procedure but also an emotionally charged one. Many women who have undergone mastectomies have already been through profound struggles, and it became important not just to tattoo their skin but to restore a sense of femininity, confidence, and wholeness. This required not just skill but great sensitivity and attention to every detail. Sometimes, I struggled with the psychological barrier—this wasn’t just working with skin, it was working with the soul. But with each case, I felt more and more that my profession had become not just a way to earn a living, but a mission.
Specializing in floral tattoos has allowed me to bring my love for delicate lines, intricate details, and vibrant colors to life. I’ve always been drawn to the way flowers can represent growth, change, and emotion, and this connection makes each piece feel personal, both for me as the artist and for the person wearing it.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is the ability to connect with others through my art and make a meaningful impact on their lives. Whether I am tattooing a delicate flower or creating a 3D nipple tattoo, what drives me is knowing that my work helps people feel more themselves, more whole, and more confident. It’s not just about creating a beautiful design; it’s about understanding the emotions and experiences behind it, and ensuring that the final piece resonates with the person in a deeply personal way.
The opportunity to restore confidence and bring healing—whether through a floral tattoo that symbolizes a person’s growth or a tattoo that marks a new chapter in someone’s life—this is what makes my work truly fulfilling. The connection I have with my clients, and the trust they place in me to be part of such intimate moments, is something I never take for granted.
My journey into tattooing is not just about professional growth. It is a path to understanding myself as an artist, realizing how much can be expressed through skin and ink, how much life can be infused into a tattoo. I believe art should not be confined by boundaries—whether it’s permanent makeup or tattoos, what matters most is the love for what you do and the sincerity behind it.
Looking back today, I realize that every stage of my journey—from permanent makeup to fine lines, floral tattoos, and 3D nipple tattoos—was significant and inevitable. It has led me to where I am now: at the forefront of tattoo art, discovering new horizons and opportunities every day. And I am certain that this is only the beginning.
