We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chris Jones. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Chris, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up pretty early now, way earlier than my commute requires, and I need to. I cannot be rushed in the mornings; I get up, read the WSJ, listen to some music, and map out my day in my head. Pacing my morning is huge for me. I’m not someone who can just roll out of bed and get to work; I have to get warmed up in my own way. I walk to work, so I also use that time to myself just to clear my head before my day starts.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Chris Jones, a proud graduate of Morehouse College, born in Atlanta, currently residing in Charlotte, North Carolina. I specialize in the financial services industry, particularly Wealth Management. I’m also a director, writer, and producer running the production company A Brick In The Wall Studios, which specializes in independent cinema and film distribution. I’ve always had a passion for finance and film; to me, it’s the Yin and Yang. Without one, I wouldn’t be as good at the other.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
It’s all about trust. If they don’t trust you, you’ll never get anywhere with them.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
Success itself. Success is a goal post that keeps moving. First, it’s get this job or make this much money, but after a while, the grind of just trying to “achieve” anything can wear you out. I changed my mind on how to pursue success. I’m no longer viewing success as the product of a struggle; success is going through the battle itself. It may sound counterintuitive, but if you learn to appreciate the bad and embrace it, you will value and savor the good even more.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Life. I value life. Life should be fun; it should be full of a vast range of emotions. You should work very hard, but you should party very hard too. As people, we invest so much into ourselves, our looks, our education, and the hours in our day to build a life for ourselves, and we should always be enjoying and reaping the benefits of that life. I also think balance would be another one. Everything should be equally yoked. The older I get, the more I question why we glamorize the extreme. meet me in the middle of a workaholic and a hippie, no need to be one or the other. They would also tell you movies, but I don’t have as profound an answer for that one.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Building relationships. In the film and financial worlds, half of my time is spent building relationships. The people I know now are going to take me into the future, and I trust them to do so. These relationships are what truly matter to me; they’re my secret weapon.
