Community Highlights: Meet Amanda Dickerson of Nourish Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Dickerson

Amanda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After leaving the social work field to become a stay at home mom over 15 years ago, I found solace in attending the gym. My trainers and fellow gym members became an important part of my motivation to exercise regularly. Once I would find a trainer/group fitness instructor I loved, I would follow them from gym to gym if they moved locations. During Covid, my gym closed and I found myself gaining weight, losing muscle tone, and eating and drinking in excess. I finally reached out to my previous trainer, Aubrey Miller, and we motivated each other to get some small group trainings going (for her to lead, and me to attend). All the while, my own group fitness studio was forming in my mind. I was collecting ideas of what I knew I wanted and what I didn’t want and started saying these ideas out loud. I think at first, everyone thought I was just blabbering, but I knew, deep down, this studio would come to life. My husband is an entrepreneur and business owner. Once I wore him down, he jumped on bored and Nourish came to fruition! I knew Nourish Studios would be a boutique fitness studio for women focused on fitness, wellness, and community. I began talking to Aubrey, my trainer. I knew I wanted her to be the mentor to my coaches, help me hire the best trainers in town, and help me get Nourish off the ground. She too, had to be worn down, but eventually she joined me. We hired the best trainers in town and came up with a schedule that offers variety and flexibility. Our main goal, in addition to fitness, is community. Women need one another to provide support, and when it comes to fitness, many of us need accountability. We decided to add Lagree, a multifaceted workout preformed on a Miniformer Pro, it includes strength and cardio combined, while being low impact and very effective. We have 6 Lagree machines in our studio and offer multiple classes daily. We also have 6 Muay Thai boxing bags and 8 mini trampolines. Our classes include Boxing n’ Belles, Max Strength, Barre Fusion, Yoga Sculpt, Step n’ Strength, Bounce n’ Burn, and so much more.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Because Lagree is new to the Wake Forest area, I knew the likelihood of finding trainers already certified to teach Lagree was going to be difficult. So, Aubrey and I convinced 10 of the trainers we hired to become certified. We hired a duo out of Asheville to come to the studio and certify our team. While this process was costly and it really pushed the trainers out of their comfort zones, it was absolutely worth it. The ladies took on this challenge and mastered it. We were lucky enough to find two other people who were already certified, completing our Lagree team
Other than that, I can honestly say, because I believe in the power of manifestation, Nourish came together without many challenges, because it was meant to be.

We’ve been impressed with Nourish Studios, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Nourish Studios is a boutique fitness studio for women located downtown Wake Forest. We are focused on fitness, community, and wellness. We offer group fitness classes daily, personal training, health coaching, life and recovery coaching, and wellness events. We aim to provide a space for women to exercise, meet and support other women, and learn more about women focused health and wellness. We opened April 1, 2024, and have a growing number of members that we appreciate wholeheartedly. Nourish Studios offers a large variety of group fitness classes that are small in size, Some of which are very unique types of fitness to our area, including Boxing, Trampoline Fitness, and Lagree. We have a team of trainers that are the lifeblood of our studio. They hold experience and education that brings Nourish a step above.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in Boone, NC. I began dance at a young age and stuck with it through High School. While I was not the best in town, in kept me active and a part of a team. After completing by BS in Sociology at Appalachian State, I met who would be come my husband, Hill, and we moved to Raleigh and then to Wake Forest in 2008. I have 2 beautiful daughters, ages 11 and 17. My Mom, Aunts, and Grandmothers were my primary influence and taught me to be a strong and independent woman. I hope that this fierceness and independence is passed on to my girls. I want them to see the power of making something happen and believing in your gut and intuition.
