Community Highlights: Meet Andrew Butenko of Nerd Escapes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Butenko.

Hi Andrew, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I think it’s a pure blessing that we found a tiny house in South Glenwood seven years ago. Since it had been vacant for a while, the landlord let us lease it for an escape room. Back then, it was very new to the public, and it was very hard to get a lease agreement with such a concept.
Luckily we did ok and now we have three buildings on one parking lot( same super awesome landlord) and 11 rooms to choose from.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not, but we got through the tough beginning due to quite a few miracles. Too much to least. Covid time was extremely hard to keep up with rent, but thanks to God and our awesome customers, we got through that part and are looking forward to building three new rooms this fall.

As you know, we’re big fans of Nerd Escapes. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We’re an escape room! Specializing in team-building, birthday parties, and overall fun activitiy for friends and family.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Lots of books, way too many to list. Overall, we are Nerds who read a lot more than do screen time.
