Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley.
Hi Ashley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to North Carolina with my family from California in 2008. I was part of one of the first graduating classes at Panther Creek High and later attended NC State—Go Wolfpack! My early career began in Human Resources at Biologics here in Cary, followed by leadership roles at a life science consulting firm, MetLife, and Coastal Credit Union, where I helped build out a Process Improvement Department.
After a layoff in early 2025, I decided it was time for a change. I’d always dreamed of starting my own business and loved the hospitality world—having worked as a barista throughout college—so I began searching for a small coffee shop. I came across the space we’re in now: not quite small, not quite a coffee shop, but absolutely perfect. I fell in love immediately and envisioned a bar experience I’d always wished existed—a place with something for everyone.
At The Williams House, you can enjoy craft beer, wine, cocktails, mocktails, or coffee—morning, afternoon, or night. The space itself has a beautiful story. The original owners of the historic house—Felton and Peggy Williams—met at the WPTF radio station in the 1930s, fell in love, and shared their wedding vows live on air. Newspapers across North Carolina captured their story, and that history is now part of our space. We display those original articles, photos, and deeds in our historic front room.
We host weekly events like Open Mic Night, Music Bingo, Trivia, and Live Music, and our space is welcoming whether you’re working remotely with a latte or playing board games with friends over cocktails. Outside of the bar, I spend most of my time with my two beautiful children and my amazing family, who’ve been my rock through this adventure—and the reason we sometimes run low on cherries and root beer at the bar!
Has it been a smooth road?
Like any new venture, there have been challenges. I had to quickly learn how to operate not just a cocktail bar, but also a craft beer bar and a coffee shop. We’ve dealt with equipment failures, AC outages in the middle of summer, dishwashers leaking, food truck disputes, and tough staffing decisions.
But every challenge has been a teaching moment. Feedback from our patrons helps us grow, and I’ve been blessed with incredible support from the community. My parents and brother have been my biggest helpers—whether it’s watching my kids or jumping behind the bar when needed. I truly couldn’t have done this without them.
Tell us about The Williams House: Craft Taproom.
Our name pays homage to the historic Williams House, originally located just a few blocks away in Downtown Cary. The home’s history—rooted in love and community—is central to who we are.
We serve coffee all day, along with craft beer, wine, cocktails, mocktails, slushies, and snacks. All of our espresso martinis are made with freshly pulled shots from our espresso machine—flavors include Baileys Chocolate, Horchata, Peanut Butter, and even an Espresso Old Fashioned.
We open early (7 a.m., Monday–Saturday) with outlets all around the bar for those who want to work or study. Our mission is simple: to create a space where there’s something for everyone—a welcoming environment for friends, families, and neighbors to gather and connect.
We also feature local and regional craft beer, with a rotating tap list that changes weekly.
Our logo includes a Bible verse—1 Corinthians 10:31: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” I often joke that the verse gets people to open their Bibles, but it’s also a reminder that this business exists because of Him. Our foundation is in faith, and that’s what keeps us grounded.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned?
Have faith. Everything happens for His glory.
From building issues to equipment breakdowns and personal challenges, I’ve learned that faith transforms obstacles into opportunities. Every trial has strengthened me—teaching resilience, humility, and compassion for others.
This journey has reminded me that what may feel insurmountable is just another stepping stone. With prayer, persistence, and purpose, all things fall into place in His time.
