Community Highlights: Meet Benita Williams of Restination™

Today we’d like to introduce you to Benita Williams.

Hi Benita , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in Providence, Rhode Island, but grew up here in North Carolina after my family moved down when I was three. With my mom being a librarian, I developed a love for reading early on—I was the kid spending summers writing book reports while everyone else was outside playing. That love for learning and storytelling has been a thread throughout my life.

After graduating college, I started my career in the nonprofit sector, where I spent 22 years, earned four promotions, and eventually became Executive Director of the organization. The work was meaningful—we provided advocacy and support for people with disabilities—but it also carried a lot of stress. Over time, the demands of the job began to take a toll on my health and wellbeing.

That turning point led me to pivot into the work I do now as “The Self-Care Surgeon.” Today, I coach and consult leaders to slow down so their businesses can speed up. I help them trade exhaustion for expansion and lead from a place of stewardship instead of burnout. What once felt like a challenge has become the foundation for the most rewarding chapter of my life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges was learning how to manage stress in a healthy way. During my nonprofit career, I poured so much into the work and the people we served that I often neglected myself. I carried the stress home, and over time it showed up in my health.

Another challenge was giving myself permission to pivot. After more than 20 years in one field, it was scary to step into something new. But through prayer and trusting God’s guidance, I realized that what felt like an ending was really an invitation into something greater. He showed me that rest is not weakness—it’s a divine strategy.

That revelation became the foundation of my work today. I now help leaders who feel stuck in the cycle of “doing more but feeling less” discover that there is another way—a way to grow, thrive, and expand without losing themselves in the process. The road hasn’t been smooth, but it has been purposeful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is Restination™, and I help leaders slow down so their businesses can speed up. I’m an international bestselling author, and I’m known as The Self-Care Surgeon because I help high-achieving, faith-driven CEOs and leaders move out of performance-driven burnout and into stewardship—leading from rest, clarity, and alignment rather than hustle.

Restination™ combines strategy with spiritual principles, guiding leaders through practices like Sabbath rhythms, divine strategy, and forgiveness-based leadership to transform both lives and organizations. I offer leadership intensives, business consulting, leadership retreats, and tools like my leadership assessments to help leaders measure the true impact of sustainable growth.

What sets my work apart is that it doesn’t just improve metrics—it transforms the way leaders live and lead. Success doesn’t have to cost your health or peace. Through Restination™, leaders discover how to grow, thrive, and expand from a place of overflow, not overwork.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
One book that has had a profound impact on me is Freedom Entrepreneur by Peter Carey. When I hit my breaking point in my career, I knew I could no longer operate from a high-achiever, hustle-driven mentality—it nearly cost me my health. This book showed me that I could build a business and lead in a way that aligned with my values and faith. It answered a prayer I had been carrying for years and inspired me to pursue entrepreneurship in a sustainable, freedom-centered way.

I follow a number of podcasts regularly, (too many to list here lol) but I also rely heavily on my phone’s Notes app for journaling. It’s where I capture ideas, reflect on insights, and track both personal and professional growth. That simple tool has become essential in helping me stay organized, grounded, and aligned with my purpose.
