Community Highlights: Meet Brian Murray of Brian H. Murray Interior Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Murray.

Hi Brian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love of art, music, architecture, interiors, and design has been a constant throughout my life. This love is ingrained in my day-to-day life and especially in our travels.

I have always had a passion for creating interesting and comfortable spaces both indoors and out. I actually went to college on a Horticulture scholarship with a focus on Landscape Design.

I quickly realized that while I loved plants and being outdoors my passion lay in creating amazing interiors. I switched my major and the rest is history. I have been working in Interior Design whether part-time or full-time for over 22 years.

I began my interior design business part-time in 2000 working on the remodel of a home that had suffered a devastating fire. From there my business has grown into a full-service design firm. Over the years, I have learned so much, loving every minute of it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say it has been mostly smooth with a few bumps in the road. Surviving recessions and slowdowns in the economy have been challenging but we have prevailed.

There are also learning curves with changes in technology, the invention of HGTV, and changes in tastes that you must always keep up with. Running your own business, as anyone who does will tell you, is not always rainbows and sunshine.

The day-to-day business operations and the regulatory commitment are profound but thanks to the support from my friends, colleagues, and most of all my husband we manage!

We are a full-service interior design studio located in Raleigh, NC. We are known for creating timeless, relaxed, unique, and approachable spaces. Our focus is on helping clients express their own personal style and create the spaces of their dreams.

We do this by working closely to get to know them and their family (or the end-users of the space). We focus first on functional needs and then make the space aesthetically pleasing applying our knowledge of design elements and principles. We anticipate their needs and develop designs that are personal, unique, and custom ultimately creating spaces they connect with on a human level.

Using the psychology of Interior Design, we create spaces with feeling.

When first meeting a client, my most important question is “when we are all done, and you walk into your finished space how will it make you feel?” We turn the answer into a design concept and this concept statement is the driver for every design decision helping us create one-of-a-kind spaces for our amazing clients.

We love working with homeowners, builders, and realtors in Raleigh and the growing Triangle. We are happy to connect and collaborate on any Interior Design or Construction project.
