Community Highlights: Meet Brianna Tate of Better Taste by Bri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Tate.

Hi Brianna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
When I was younger, I used to beg my family to let me cook. I started cooking at about 6 years old making eggs. Once I was old enough, I started cooking real meals and experimenting with different ingredients. I took a foods course in 9th grade where I consistently wowed my instructor and classmates. We had an info session with Johnson and Wales University where I decided to attend after I won several awards in high school and they gave me an amazing scholarship.

Upon arrival I loved the campus, however, I didn’t feel challenged. I left after the year 2020 and decided to do something on my own. One day, I asked my Facebook friends if they would be interested in me selling plates. I got an overwhelming response and did absolutely nothing with it. About a year later, I sat down with a close friend who expressed to me that he was confident I could “Kill the game” with my food. So, one random day, I decided I was going to sell plates.

On my very first sale, I sold over $1000 worth of plates. I knew then that this was something the people needed and I had to provide it. I sold plates for about six months and then started to receive inquires about catering. At that time, I didn’t cater but I decided to meet another need in my community. As of today, I cater to small and large events and also sell plates in my free time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This has NEVER been a smooth road. We have had to refund so many customers due to dropping full batches of food on the floor that we had to throw away. We have had to stop production and give a 30 minutes wait time because we were so busy we accidentally let the grease burn.

We have had many sales where we did not profit because we were new in business and had no clue how to price items. The race is given to those who endure until the end!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Better Taste by Bri?
My business is aimed toward providing people with a true Southern meal experience. So many restaurant owners that make soul food have awesome recipes and attributes, but the larger you grow sometimes the less personal the experience becomes. My customers are all like family to me and I intend to serve them until I can’t anymore! I specialize in fried foods, mostly Fried Ribs, Fried Chicken, and Fried Pork Chops.

I stand out from all of my competition because I do not compete. I simply focus on myself and my brand. I heavily market myself on all of my products with labels that include my face and logo, I market on social media and I sometimes stop and explain what I do to those around me. I never deny an opportunity to advance. I am most proud of the premium products that I use and produce as well as the professional experience I provide. I don’t do anything the “cheap way”, I never look for the “easy way” and I never take advantage of my support system. I treat people well, I give all that I can to every event and I show up every time, even if I only sell 1 plate.

I invest in myself 100% of the time because I am determined to have the brand that stands out the most. I want every reader to know that no matter how hard the dream is God will fulfill your desires and bless you beyond measure. Be consistent and treat everyone the best you can in the process. I will dedicate myself and my very best at all times, and I encourage everyone else to do the same. Show up and go hard every single time!
