Today we’d like to introduce you to Chauntel Graves.
Hi Chauntel , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My professional background began in public accounting and has evolved over more than 20 years into corporate finance, where I worked across areas like financial analysis, treasury operations, M&A, supply chain, and strategic planning. Those experiences gave me a strong foundation in how financial data drives decision-making at a high level.
Over time, I began to notice a consistent gap—many small and mid-sized businesses weren’t able to use their financial information in the same way. Not because they lacked capability, but often because they didn’t have the structure or clarity in place.
That realization is what led me to start Ascendia Business Services. I wanted to bring that same kind of strategic financial insight to business owners in a way that was both practical and accessible.
Today, Ascendia focuses on helping clients move beyond simply maintaining financial records to actually using their numbers to make informed decisions—whether that’s improving profitability, managing cash flow, or planning for growth.
The journey has really been about taking what I’ve learned in corporate finance and strategy environments and translating it into something that directly supports business owners in navigating real-world challenges and growing their businesses with confidence.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but the challenges have been very intentional. There are so many options from which to choose. You really have to be clear about the presentation you want to bring to business owners.
One of the biggest areas of focus for me has been building the right foundation for the business—making sure the infrastructure, systems, and processes match the level of service I want to provide to clients. That includes everything from secure client communication and data management to tools that support efficiency and reliability.
There’s an investment that comes with doing that the right way, especially early on. But I’ve always believed that if I’m advising businesses on operating at a high level, my own business needs to reflect that same standard.
So, while there have been challenges, they’ve really been about building something that is sustainable, professional, and capable of delivering a consistently strong client experience.
As you know, we’re big fans of Ascendia Business Services, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Ascendia Business Services, we focus on helping business owners gain clarity in their financials and use that clarity to make better decisions.
At a foundational level, we provide financial management services like bookkeeping and cleanup work, along with tax preparation and planning. But where we truly specialize—and where we add the most value—is in business advisory services.
We help clients move beyond simply maintaining records to actually understanding what their numbers are telling them. That includes evaluating profitability, managing cash flow, improving processes, and making more informed decisions about growth and operations.
What sets Ascendia apart is that we take a more integrated approach. My background spans not just accounting, but also finance, strategy, supply chain, and M&A. So, when I look at a business, I’m not just looking at the numbers—I’m looking at how all parts of the business work together and how financial insight can support better outcomes.
From a brand perspective, what I’m most proud of is the level of care and intention behind the work. Clients trust us with very important aspects of their business, and I take that responsibility seriously. I aim to be both a technical resource and a true partner—someone who is reliable, thoughtful, and invested in helping them navigate challenges.
Ultimately, what I want people to know is that Ascendia is about more than accounting—it’s about helping business owners move from uncertainty to clarity, and from clarity to confident decision-making.
How do you think about happiness?
What really makes me happy in my work is seeing the moment when things begin to click for someone.
With clients, it’s that sense of relief when they move from uncertainty to understanding—when they’re able to clearly see what’s happening in their business and begin solving problems that previously felt overwhelming or difficult to even articulate.
I see something very similar in the classroom as well. When students are working through a complex concept and then reach that point of understanding, there’s a noticeable shift in confidence.
In both cases, it comes down to clarity—helping people move from confusion to insight. That’s what I find most rewarding about the work that I do
