Community Highlights: Meet Coley Hull of Coley Home

Today we’d like to introduce you to Coley Hull. Them and their team share their story with us below:

In late 2019, Charlotte native Coley Collett Hull launched her e-commerce, direct-to-consumer bedroom furnishings business, Coley Home. Specializing in custom upholstered furniture and luxury bedding, Coley Home offers customers the opportunity to design new furniture quickly, affordably, and with style. 

Hull’s love for the furniture industry started at a young age, as her grandparents founded a furniture manufacturing company based in Hickory, North Carolina. She followed their path and studied textile design at NC State, then went on to develop a fabric line for a company based in New York City. While living in New York, Hull was constantly frustrated while trying to furnish her tiny apartment with quality furniture. Lead times were unimaginably long, sometimes even months, and there was physically no way for her to carry this furniture up and into her apartment. 

Riding the New York subway to work, Hull was inundated with tons of memory foam “mattress in a box” ads. With her background in textiles and furniture, Hull started dreaming up ways she could tastefully apply the same quick-ship, convenient delivery concept to the entire bed – bed frame and headboard included. With her business idea in place, Hull made the move back to her hometown of Charlotte to bring her vision to life. 

Coley Home launched in 2019 with a mission to bring high-quality beds and bedding delivered in 10 days or less. Gone are the days of waiting months for beautiful, custom-made furniture! 

The Crown Bed started as the shining star of the online store, and customers can choose from over 50 fabrics and seven shapes with three oak leg finishes. The best part? Hull’s patent-pending headboard technology! 

While the platform bed is super easy to assemble, the headboard works like magic! Made completely of durable shrinking and expanding foam, The Crown Headboard is compressed in Coley Home’s Charlotte facility, immediately packaged into a shippable box, and delivered to customer’s doorstep via UPS. Once unpackaged, it resiliently expands back to its original size. Even better, the headboard is compatible with standard bed frames, making it the perfect quick-fix for a bedroom update. 

Coley Home added small-scale customizable and quick-ship furniture in Fall 2020, which was met with great success! We’re releasing another collection in January 2022 with even more upholstery. While our pieces are quick-ship, we remain committed to high-quality materials and craftsmanship. Each piece is efficiently handcrafted by our North Carolina manufacturers and carefully packaged to quickly arrive at our customer’s door with industry-disrupting lead times. 

Hello convenience, so-long white glove delivery, and excessive shipping costs! Each piece is customizable with our collection of 50+ versatile fabrics, and we offer COM for designers in our Trade Program. 

In December we are starting our very own manufacturing! We’re so excited to share more! 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a small business is no small feat. We have had numerous challenges from marketing to manufacturing issues. Creating a brand is hard and it takes time to earn trust from your customers. My advice would be to start small and use your marketing budget very wisely. Do not try and compete with the big dogs just yet! 

After being in business for three years, we’ve learned so much more than we ever imagined. Little did we know we would be able to sustain our own manufacturing facility in just 2 years! I am so proud of our team and all of the hard work that has been poured into this sweet brand!

Due to our direct-to-consumer and inventory-heavy approach we are able to deliver all custom upholstery pieces in just 10 business days! We also do all embroidery in-house allowing us to get gifts in loved ones’ hands in no time! 

Coley Home strives to provide beautiful, high-end products with two fundamental inputs: design and quality. We take pride in ensuring the highest standards of care while bringing creative visions to life. 

What are your plans for the future?
We have BIG things coming in January! Not only are we moving to our very own manufacturing plant, but we’re expanding our product line into sofas, sectionals, and more chairs. We couldn’t resist adding these items after so many of our customers requested these pieces. 

Our fabric options will also be growing. We’re adding fun prints and versatile fabrics that will be perfect on all of our pieces. We’ve had many requests for performance (stain-guarded) fabrics, so we will absolutely be adding those.
