Community Highlights: Meet Denawa Deniece of Double Dose Wellness and QCItyDoula

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denawa Deniece.

Hi Denawa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello! I initially started as a Hot Power Yoga instructor teaching 1 breath 1 movement in a heated room. I started having more pregnant bodies show up to my class + me being me, I decided to go get additional training so I could properly cue all the bodies in front of me. In the prenatal yoga teacher training was the smallest details about birth and the huge disparities that black and brown women faced. I was taken back by this information because at the time I had a 12 year old + had such a birth experience that I had no idea what happened to me was wrong and so similar to what other women who looked like me. I felt incredibly convicted. That I needed to share the information I learned, that I needed to be in those rooms, that I neede to be apart of the change. The impact for better. From there I began taking birth clients. Now that I am over 200 births in, I have seen so many things, especially the lack of care postpartum for moms and families. My business has blossomed past birth, to the full reproductive cycle, each phase that momma can find her in. Im here to educate, to advocate and to make sure those mommas feel seen + heard.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been obstacles. There have been providers that were not as welcoming. That didnt want the additional input of support. There have been dads who have said no because they didnt want to shoulder the cost. There have been nurses that have been rude. There have been hiccups but there have also been the most beautiful moments. There have been instances where I have noticed or seen something that I brought up to the client that was actually life altering had those things not been addressed.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Double Dose Wellness and QCItyDoula?
I own borth Double Dose Wellness and QCityDoula here in Charlotte. QCityDoula is my service side, it houses all things birth + postpartum. This is where you find support during pregnancy, labor and after delivery. I am a Full Spectrum doula that specializes in all types of birth outcomes. What sets me apart in this area is a combination of personal experience and the experiences I have had supporting over 200 deliveries and over 60 families postpartum. I have a holistic approach that focuses on specifically what that momma has envisioned for her delivery + creating the enviroment to facillate that vision as much as possible. Double Dose Wellness is the wellness side of my business and that portion focuses on holisitic living regardless of the phase a woman is in. There I provide cycle literacy, holistic coaching to work through blockages + bring forth liberation. I offer personal coaching, retreats, speaking opportunities + yoga. What sets this side of the business apart is my dedication to liberating women. This is personal. Brand wise I am most proud of the impact that I am making on both sides. Folks leave me forever changed in the best ways.

How do you think about luck?
I dont know that luck has anything to do with my business. This has always been about alignment. How I got started, the families and women I have had the opportunity to support has all been aligned. I am a person of integrity + Im incredibly genuine. If I dont believe in it, I dont participate in it. Every area of my business is something that I once needed. I can stand proud on that.
