Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Kesha Reed of Reach Higher Educational Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kesha Reed.

Hi Dr. Reed, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I am Dr. Kesha Reed, Higher Education Administrator, Educational Consultant, and Published Author. I was reared in Birmingham, AL but have made Durham, NC home for the past 2 decades. I have been an educator for 24 years and I am passionate about helping others reach their goals. I am a wife, bonus Mom, and dedicated friend. My hobbies include fitness, planning social gatherings, reading, and enjoying local eateries with my husband and best friend, Yury, and bonus daughter, Vionce. I am an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and I have engagement with other local boards.

I am the author of Amazon Best Seller, Reach Higher in Life and Love, where I share my journey to healing and restoration post-divorce. I dealt with extreme heartbreak and challenges in love until I decided to be intentional about my healing. The book was published in Feb. 2021 and I just recently relaunched a Special Edition in Feb. 2022. The Special Edition shares my weight loss journey and how that translates to assisting others as they drop dead weight as they reach higher. I am a lover of life, good vibes and I find joy in helping others to reach higher in all they desire. I started Reach Higher Educational Consulting in September 2020, became a published author in 2021 and I continue to be committed to assisting and motivating those who seek to better themselves and their organizations. It brings me joy to serve, support, inspire and encourage others as they trust the process in their lives to become better each day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were many challenges, which I describe in detail in Reach Higher in Life and Love.

After my divorce many years ago, I became suicidal and was truly broken. It was when I decided to lean on my faith and therapy to begin the process of healing. Once I began the journey to self-love and having a love affair with myself, I then began to heal. I am extremely transparent in the book and provide a space for the reader to reflect and journal about their journey.

I am happily remarried to Yury J. Reed who is extremely supportive of me and my endeavors. I am thankful for the earlier lessons to improve every meaningful relationship in my life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am the Founder, CEO and Lead Consultant of Reach Higher Educational Consulting. My company provides a variety of services including educational planning and services, career/degree attainment planning, leadership development, and strategic planning.

My expertise is providing services pertaining to disability services and support, accessibility, inclusion, student success models, and strategies for success in both K-12 and higher education. I am also a public speaker where I focus on motivation, student engagement (both K-12 and higher education), and Author Talks, which provide the audience tips and strategies on how to reach higher with all they desire.

I am most proud of providing consultation services and training for Wiley College, leadership development training for Cupid Organization, Disability Support and Training for the Association for Deans and Directors in University Colleges and Undergraduate Studies (AD&D) and East Carolina University, and a host of consulting sessions with individuals.

What were you like growing up?
I was born in Boston, MA but was reared in Birmingham, AL. I was always outgoing and loved to engage with new people. Just as I am today. I was raised by my wonderful and loving mother Annie Lucas, along with my 2 older brothers.

I was involved in marching band from middle school to college and have always had a love for music, photography, planning social gatherings, and meeting new people.
