Community Highlights: Meet Elisa Buxbaum of Pulse Pilates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisa Buxbaum.

Hi Elisa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In my early 20’s I was living in New York as a modern dancer. It was then that I was first introduced to Pilates. In the early 90’s Pilates was primarily popular with the dance community. I continued to teach dance when my children were young but was also taking Pilates lessons. My love for Pilates grew and I decided to get certified.. I taught at a studio for a few years before it closed and took that as a sign to open my own studio. It’s been 13 years of growing a wonderful community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have been very blessed. The main challenge is finding talented, knowledgeable instructors that fit the positive energy of Pulse. I was never in a rush to hire instructors, I would do the teaching myself. Each instructor has started as a client. 13 years later Pulse has the same instructors!!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Pulse Pilates?
Pulse is a small boutique studio with small class sizes and lots of individual attention. My goal when opening Pulse was to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and encouraged. Pulse has exceeded my expectations in so many ways. Many wonderful friendships have developed and it is a community that goes beyond Pilates.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I have learned to start small and slow. Trust the process and enjoy every step. Good things don’t just happen overnight, it takes time to grown. I also really believe in good Karma and positive energy!!
