Community Highlights: Meet Eric Del Toro of Coastal Elite K9 Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Del Toro

Hi Eric, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my training journey with my personal dog who was quite problematic. I went through three different trainers and training methods before I landed on the last trainer who did some training with him and achieved better results then others but still not where I wanted him to be. I asked that trainer how he got started training as I was interested in changing career paths and he let me know the company had an opening and all I had to do was pay for a trip out east and they would train me. I interviewed got the job they fired the trainer that trained my dog and I took his spot as the only trainer in San Diego for that company. I learned their methods as well as started to learn other training methods and got my dog trained to where I wanted him. I wasn’t a fan of working for a franchise company and only being tied to one method which led to me to move out to North Carolina and attend a master dog trainer program at highland k9 in harmony. I graduated and shortly after started my own business.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. There’s a lot of learning and right when you think you know what you’re doing along comes another dog that blows your mind and makes you get creative. In regards to owning a business that’s never an easy road there’s no help until you.ve been in business for 2 years and even then its hard to get capital from banks to stay afloat. Customer service, great training, and word of mouth has been the biggest benefactor along my time as a business owner

As you know, we’re big fans of Coastal Elite K9 Training . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Coastal Elite K9 Training is a dog training company specializing in general and off leash obedience as well as severe behavior modification. What sets us apart from others is our job at training the clients. We train people more than we train dogs. In our board and train programs we offer free refresher lessons for the life time of the dog. Not only do you get the education to ensure your success with your personal dog but you also get us for the life time of the dog to problem solve any unique issues that might come along. It’s our goal to not only teach you about dog training as a whole but also teach you about your personal dog. All dogs are different and learn different and it’s important to know the ins and outs of your personal dog. Brand wise I’m most proud of being aggressive dogs last hope. Before behavioral euthanasia our clients come to us for success and happy life going forward. We have a very high success rate in our behavior modification programs and I am most proud of that. Going to the master dog training program I learned a lot of different avenues in training and fell in love with behavior modification. Getting to do that every day and change the lives of dogs and owners alike has been the biggest blessing.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My clients success. I was unsuccessful as a dog owner before I became a trainer. I sought out several different trainers and several different methods and found a lot of poor results and some that weren’t educated in the industry. Some made my dog worse and more difficult for the next trainer to work with. I know and understand the stress of having a problematic dog all too well. Ensuring that my clients come to us as a one stop destination for all their training needs is of the upmost importance to me.
