Community Highlights: Meet Gineen Cargo of Gavin Christianson Bridal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gineen Cargo.

Hi Gineen, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story. 
My professional background is in Marketing & Public Relations. As a publicist, I was responsible for planning and executing major client events and I eventually began planning weddings as a side gig executing my first wedding in 2006. While planning weddings, I experienced many of my brides complaining about the lack of inclusivity while wedding dress shopping. It seemed as if the wedding dress industry was catering only to the brides who were a size 6 and below. While shopping for my own wedding dress at a size 12, I also experienced negativity and was unable to find a selection of gowns I could actually put on my body. I vowed then that I would one day change the landscape visually and sidewise of bridal, and here we are! 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Entrepreneurship is a fun but hard road. It is true that you give up working 40 hours for yourself and work 24-7! My brides are my pride and joy, and making sure we have the right gowns to fit all bodies is something I take serious. When we’re tracking the production of a gown, sometimes I will be up until 4 am to communicate with some of our overseas factories making sure that a bride’s gown is perfect. Needless to say, I lose a lot of sleep, but it’s all worth it when a bride receives her gown and is beaming from ear to ear.

Gavin Christianson Bridal is a brick-and-mortar bridal boutique in downtown Durham, NC. We are proudly women-led and black-owned. We service all brides from sizes 00-36. While we service all brides, we cater to the mid-sized or curvy bride. We are intentional about making sure that a bride’s wedding gown is personal, so we specialize in recommending customizations that will set your gown apart from any other. Many of our designers and manufacturers are able to customize bridal gowns in production and whew can’t we have an amazing seamstress that can make local changes to the gown. We are all the frill without the fuss of most bridal boutiques as we make sure that the focus is on the bride and the bride’s experience. 

We also have a prom room, call GC Prom girls, to offer fun, trendy prom gowns to high schoolers across the RDU area and beyond! 

As of November ’23, we are officially 5 years old and super proud to be part of the triangle landscape!
