Today we’d like to introduce you to Ha Nguyen
Hi Ha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From Toronto to Raleigh: A Journey of Growth and Resilience
Before moving to Raleigh, I was deeply involved in the real estate sector in Toronto, Canada, where I served as a partner at multiple brokerages in the Greater Toronto Area. As a single woman, I was wholly devoted to growing my businesses. Raised by a single mother who was a Vietnamese refugee, I learned the values of resilience, tenacity, and hard work from an early age. My mother exemplified how one could achieve remarkable success, even without fluency in the local language.
My journey to Raleigh started unexpectedly during the pandemic. As the world shifted to remote interactions through platforms like Zoom during the lockdowns, I met the man who would become my husband. This unexpected encounter led me to relocate to Raleigh, North Carolina. Pregnant and eager to embrace new challenges, I quickly became involved in the local community and business scene.
In Raleigh, not only did I adapt to a new life, but I also expanded my professional horizons. My husband and I established DLT Capital, an international real estate investment firm based out of Raleigh. We began introducing investment opportunities in Tulum, Mexico, to markets in the U.S. and Canada. This venture marked a significant expansion of my professional scope, leveraging my experience in real estate across borders and cultures.
I didn’t stop there; my ambition pushed me to further challenge myself by diving deeper into the U.S. real estate market. Despite the demands of being a new mother, with my three-month-old son in tow, I achieved full broker status within just three months. This significant accomplishment allowed me to join the top-ranked Compass Team at the Coley Group real estate agency. My determination to excel and adapt quickly to new environments was fueled by my commitment to not only sustain but also expand my professional capabilities in a competitive market.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overcoming Challenges Along the Way
The journey to where I am today has been anything but smooth, yet each challenge has contributed to a tale of resilience and reinvention. Transitioning to life in the U.S. presented a multitude of hurdles that tested my resolve. Among these was the limitation on my ability to travel outside of the U.S. while I was processing my residency, which often left me feeling disconnected from my roots and my extended family.
Starting anew in Raleigh, I found myself in a completely different cultural landscape. Being a minority and adapting to American societal norms added layers of complexity to my daily experiences. Additionally, the initial loneliness of not knowing anyone in a new city compounded the challenge, leaving me homesick and longing for the familiar.
However, these obstacles were not insurmountable. With the support of my husband, the love of my family, and the friendships I gradually built, I was able to navigate these difficulties. My network became my anchor, providing the strength and encouragement needed to push forward. This journey, while filled with its fair share of trials, has been a powerful testament to my ability to adapt and reinvent myself, drawing on my inherent tenacity and the lessons of resilience instilled by my mother. Each struggle has not only shaped me into a stronger individual but has also deepened my appreciation for the new connections and opportunities that have come my way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Embracing Risk in Real Estate and Beyond
I firmly believe that embracing risk is essential for growth and success, both personally and professionally. My career and life journey have been shaped by a series of calculated risks that have led to rewarding outcomes. From leaving my home in Canada to establish a new life in Raleigh, each decision was driven by the potential for growth despite the inherent uncertainties.
One vivid example of taking a strategic risk occurred shortly after moving to Raleigh. My husband and I ventured into the local real estate market by purchasing several properties. With limited firsthand experience in this specific market, we decided to take a calculated risk by placing these properties on Airbnb. We quickly furnished them within two weeks and launched them on the market. This move was a gamble, but it was one that was meticulously thought out.
This risk paid off significantly. Not only have these properties been profitable, but they have also provided us with invaluable lessons about the local real estate market and the vacation rental business. We learned what works and what doesn’t, and these insights have been crucial in refining our strategy. To this day, we still own these properties, and they continue to generate income. Encouraged by this success, we plan on expanding our portfolio further.
Taking a Sweet Leap into Confections
My next venture is an exciting foray into the world of confections. I have launched a brand called Nu Nougat. This project is particularly close to my heart because it involves something I love—creating sweets that are not only delectable but also evoke nostalgia and create lasting memories. Each bite of my nougats tantalizes the palate, and I am thrilled to share them with everyone. This new endeavor is another step in my journey, continuing to grow and learn while creating beautiful connections and sharing my story of love, resilience, and determination.
I view risk as an opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and test new waters. While not every risk results in success, each one offers a chance to learn and adapt, which is invaluable. My experience has taught me that the key to managing risk is not to avoid it but to understand it thoroughly and to prepare as much as possible. By doing so, we not only mitigate potential downsides but also position ourselves to capitalize on opportunities that others might shy away from.
