Community Highlights: Meet Jeanette Ivey of Ivey Artistry Cosmetic Tattoo Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanette Ivey.

Hi Jeanette, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started in the beauty industry when I was 18, working for one of the worlds leading makeup brands MAC Cosmetics. I began in 2006 as only a cashier & grew with the company for almost 13 years which eventually led me to create the name Ivey Artistry. I always wanted to have my own business and Ivey Artistry originally started as me doing freelance bridal & editorial makeup.

Brows make such an impact on your facial features and became an obsession of mine over the years of being a professional makeup artist. My obsession kept growing & inspired me to want to give people brows that didn’t wipe off at the end of the day.

In 2016, I discovered Microblading was the new buzz, it is a semi-permanent technique for enhancing the appearance of eyebrows, in which pigment is implanted into the skin replicating hair strokes. From that moment on I knew I needed to learn this amazing new service so I could kick off my career in Permanent Makeup.

That same year I completed Microblading training with Phi Brow Academy in NYC. I am originally from the Delaware/Philadelphia area & officially moved to North Carolina a few months before I went to training. During this time was when I made Ivey Artistry an official LLC and took a risk on opening a small single-bed Salon Loft room.

Keep in mind that I was new to Raleigh with no existing clientele, I had no loans or savings in the bank, I had no business knowledge, & I used a credit card for a start-up.

I was in the Salon Lofts for a little less than a year and during that time I completed more advanced PMU fundamental training & built amazing client relationships that helped me grow my brand locally which lead me to take another risk of opening my own storefront in Lafayette Village.

Behind the scenes I was going through a divorce, living on my own with my daughter, I had no family around locally & I was scared of taking on an even bigger risk, but my dream was to lead and empower a team of artists and bring NC a full-service luxury cosmetic tattoo studio. Your dreams are on the other side of fear & despite people telling me not to do it or saying I would fail, I believed in myself and went all in.

At first, it was me plus 2 other artists that only did waxing and lashes, but eventually, I trained them in PMU.

Together the 3 of us bloomed & tripled revenue in just 1 year which lead me to want to expand into larger studio space so I could grow my team from 3 to now 7 artists. In addition to us expanding into a 2400 sqft studio, we also added to our service menu and not only semi-permanent brow services but we also offer Lip Blush, Lash Line Enhancement, Scalp Micropigmentation, & more recently Nano Machine Brows & Paramedical Tattooing which includes Areola Restoration & Scar Camouflaging. I also became a certified PMU Fundamental trainer & offer classes inside our studio, which is called The Muse Academy™.

At the end of the day, I truly believe in the power of manifestation. Everything I have and achieved today I envisioned for a long time and believed could happen. Being a business owner is not easy, & you don’t have to have the experience to be your own boss but as long as you have a vision, motivation, & passion for what you do I promise you will succeed.

The vision I had became reality over time, & I motivate myself every day to elevate my mind and empower those around me. I’m passionate about being a leader my team can look up to as well as being able to have a place where people can come to feel confident & unapologetically themselves. Inspire yourself to inspire others & be your own muse.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road and of course, I’ve learned a lot of lessons along the way of being a business owner.

Some of which included learning how to separate business/personal boundaries with employees, learning how to manage profit/loss in the very beginning, getting away from being a people pleaser and always saying yes, not taking on too much at one time, and learning to have a healthy work/life balance.

As you know, we’re big fans of Ivey Artistry Cosmetic Tattoo Studio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Ivey Artistry is the premier cosmetic tattoo studio located in Raleigh NC

Our goal is simple: Deliver high-quality permanent makeup and beauty services! Creating a high-end, comfortable and memorable experience for our clients is deeply important to us!

Our service list includes Microblading, Lip Blush, Lash Line Enhancement, Scalp Micropigmentation, as well as Paramedical Tattooing which includes Areola Restoration & Scar Camouflaging. The most recently added service Nano (Machine Brows) is the most innovative technique for PMU brows! What makes you happy?
Honestly, being a part of someone’s happiness makes me happy. Making my daughter smile and having her be proud I am her mother makes me happy. I have always been the kind of person who feels joy knowing I put a smile on someone’s face.

I am so deeply passionate about what I do and the way it can impact how someone feels & how much it can change someone’s life. The fact that I wake up every day and do something I am passionate about & being able to give people more confidence and put a smile on someone’s face every single day makes me feel nothing but happiness and I am so grateful for it.
