The Social Board was born out of a simple idea: creating a place where people could genuinely connect. I’ve always been a huge board game nerd — my very first job was actually working at a board game store — and some of my favorite memories growing up were sitting around a table with friends and family, laughing and playing games for hours.
As our family became more involved in the Fuquay community through JT’s Creamery, we kept hearing the same thing: people wanted more places to gather that weren’t centered around bars or just grabbing a quick meal. We felt Fuquay was in desperate need of a space where people could slow down, spend intentional time together, and build community.
That’s what led us to create The Social Board. We wanted a welcoming environment where anyone could come in — whether you’re a hardcore gamer or someone who’s never played a modern board game before. We host board game nights regularly, and one of the best parts is seeing complete strangers sit down at a table together and leave as friends. We even have people there to help teach games, making it easy and approachable for everyone.
What started as a passion for board games has grown into something much bigger: a community hub where families, friends, and neighbors can unplug from their phones, connect face-to-face, and make memories together. Seeing people laugh around a table reminds us exactly why we started.

Sometimes products sell out almost as soon as they come in, so we’re constantly working to restock inventory and keep up with what the community is excited about.
At the end of the day, though, those challenges have been encouraging because they remind us that people truly wanted a place like this — somewhere they could gather, connect, and build community together.

One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned is that people are truly craving connection and community. We opened The Social Board hoping to create a welcoming place for people to gather, but we didn’t realize just how much that was needed until we saw the response from the community.
We’ve also learned that creating an experience matters just as much as selling a product. People may come in for a game or cards, but what keeps them coming back is the feeling of belonging, the friendships they build, and the memories made around the table.
There’s a saying that really sticks with us: “people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” That has become a core part of how we operate — focusing less on transactions and more on making sure every person feels welcomed, valued, and at home when they walk through our doors.
