Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Fox
Hi Julia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am from a family of healthcare providers and was raised by my pediatrician father, who – at age 90 – was still working in the pediatric practice he founded in 1959. His work ethic and dedication to helping people had a huge impact on me.
I have been a nurse for 40 years, opening my first wellness business at age 28, 6 months after having my second child. It was a passion of mine, having taken up running and losing 80 pounds myself. I loved helping other people achieve better health.
Along with my current business partner, I was part of a successful reproductive surgery practice for 20 years, with patients from all over the world. We started a medical aesthetic practice within the surgery center in 2011. When we ultimately sold the surgical hospital to UNC, we retained the aesthetic practice and grew it into one of the top non-surgical aesthetic practices in our area. We were recently selected Best of Chapel Hill for the 12th year in a row and take great pride in providing personalized, customized treatments for patients with very natural results. About half of our staff have been with us since the surgery center and we’ve worked together for 30 years.
Early in 2023 I saw a need for wellness services in our area and opened a second practice, Chapel Hill Wellness Collective, to provide weight loss services, menopause support and therapies, sexual health services, hormone assessment, and IV infusions.
I’m an avid cook and gardener. I have two grown, amazing children and became a grandma last year! Along with my spouse, a retired superior court judge, we also run a foundation for blood cancer, which we started during his bone marrow transplant and successful battle with blood cancer.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Three months after we moved into our newly renovated, 4000 square foot office space in January 2020; COVID hit. The closures actually happened while we’re in the middle of our Grand Reopening event and were hosting 75 people. Like so many businesses, we had to close for 2 1/2 months. I’m so proud of how we came through I worked each day in the office alone and sold gift cards and skincare products, My son picked up the packages outside and did touchless delivery. But it allowed me to keep everyone on payroll during that time and cover salaries and insurance. It was tough. But we also learned so much and our patients were so supportive. Our team did weekly zoom calls and we set goals like obtaining advanced certifications during that time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I think I described my business previously. But I am most proud of our team. They all have extremely high standards, are genuine, empathetic people and they truly enjoy what they do. No one is phoning it in. We are known for very natural results for patients. We listen. We heard patient’s concerns and fears about looking overdone and we help them set attainable goals that allow them to achieve healthy skin and a more youthful appearance while still looking like themselves.
In the Wellness practice, we are committed to helping people have healthier lives whether that is through better nutrition and weight loss, navigating peri- menopause or menopause, or just understand hormonal changes. We are passionate about building and promoting positive relationships and working closely with patients to help them take charge of their health.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m a real believer in community over competition. I love supporting other women in business, small businesses, and our business “neighbors” in the Triangle area. We try to attend other businesses events, comment on social media posts, recommend and refer to other businesses. We love to partner with other businesses on events as well. Shout outs on social media are great. When we have events we use local businesses for food, flowers, etc.Honestly, if we all do small things to support each other like that, it will allow everyone to shine.,
