Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Anderson.
Hi Julie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My photography journey started back in 2019. I was working as in the field of genetic research and although I loved the work, I was really craving something different. My kids were young and I just knew I wanted to be around more for them and to have more flexibility in my day-to-day schedule and life. I had always had a passion for photography and decided to just jump right in. I worked both jobs for about 2 years before going flexible full-time and I haven’t looked back since. Starting a new career in your mid-30s is not for the faint of heart especially with a global pandemic around the corner to provide some additional hurdles.
After a few years of dabbling in every type of photography imaginable, I realized my true calling was in wedding photography. I love the emotion, the story telling, and the energy that comes from the celebration. After photographing my first international wedding in Iceland in 2023, I knew that the possibilities were endless and that this was my true calling. It is the most fulling work and I am literally giddy the entire time shooting a wedding day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most definitely not. Starting a business is incredibly hard and is full of a lot of ups and downs. There are the slow months that make you question if this was the right move and the busy months where you are constantly busy. I have learned to ride these waves, to feel confident in my photography ability and in the services I provide to my clients. Juggling the logistics of running a business while also raising children can be a struggle but I find that experiences as a mother gives me a unique perspective in my interactions with my couples and their families.
We’ve been impressed with Julie Anderson Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in wedding, elopement and documentary lifestyle photography with a passion for capturing heartfelt moments. I am always on the lookout for the quiet glances, the bursts of laughter, and all the fleeting in-between moments. Additionally, I am the owner and lead photographer and I will be the one personally there on your wedding day. I don’t outsource the most important day and am available every step of the way to ensure a seamless wedding photography experience.
I try to incorporate a unique twist into every photo session to bring out the client’s personalities and makes the photo shoot fun and playful. I think my approach to interacting with my clients is what sets me apart and allows me to capture the true essence of the moment being photographed.
I especially love adventure themed elopements and I am always up for whatever crazy ideas my couples have, whether it’s hiking up the side of a waterfall for some epic photos or proposing on a black sand beach at sunrise, no idea is too out there.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Raleigh has been my home for most of my adult life, it is where we started our family and hold such a special place in my heart! Raleigh is full of so much diversity and I am always finding something new and exciting to explore.
There isn’t anything I don’t like about Raleigh except for people who drive 35mph in a 45mph zone and Crabtree Mall traffic.
