Today we’d like to introduce you to Katasha Jarrin.

Hi Katasha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
At the age of 9, I decided I wanted to be a nurse. So, in high school I chose the college prep track and took healthcare classes. I am from Columbus, GA. When I was deciding on colleges to attend at the time Columbus State University had a very high success rate in passing the NCLEX and it was the number 3 nursing program in the State. I applied and graduated in 2010 with a Bachelors degree in Nursing. I worked Women’s health at a local hospital I was talking to one of the OB-GYN physicians I work with about going back to school to become a Nurse Practitioner. At that time, I wanted to advocate more for my patients and continue to see them outside of the hospital setting. He encouraged that I do so. So, I applied for a Master’s program in 2014 at Troy University and started their Family Nurse Practitioner program that fall. I graduated with a Master’s degree in May 2016. After that, I worked in primary care and then with Veteran’s care as a contractor. I was going through some major life challenges and I noticed that there was a need for more mental health providers. I didn’t feel that equip to manage the care of my patients with mental health symptoms outside of anxiety and depression. So, I decided to go back to school for a post-graduate certificate degree as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in 2019. I started the program in 2020 and graduate in 2022 from Frontier Nursing University. I finally felt like I was headed in the direction that I wanted to go in. I was selected go on Active Duty orders in 2022 at Ft. Bragg as it got closer to the time when my orders were about to be completed. I was thinking of next steps in life. I decided I wanted to start my own practice where I could integrate medical and mental care together. I started Balance Care Solutions PLLC while on Active Duty in 2023. My active duty orders ended in September 2023 then I started working in my business. I have seen over 1100 patients in my practice since I started. I am a solo Provider. I hope to continue to grow in the future and provide valuable service to North Carolinians.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all lol. There has been a lot of learning about business acumen and billing. Things you are not taught in school. Some struggles consisted of finding my niche. Determining what services I do what to offer to individuals. Marketing has been a struggle. I have done tons of research the need is out there for the services I offer but making sure clients know how to find me. Finding a location that I felt comfortable in. I have made mistakes along the way but it has helped me learn the right way moving forward.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Balance Care Solutions PLLC is an Integrative medical and mental health practice that is dedicated to providing compassionate, client centered care in a very personalized way. The practice specializes in medication management services for individuals navigating anxiety, depression, addiction, ADHD and other mental health challenges. We provide weight management services that address physical, emotional and behavior factors that impact weight. We offer accountability, support and medication assisted weight management. Our goal is to support individuals in whatever goal they want to achieve without shame, judgement or unrealistic expectations. What sets this practice apart is clients have the ability to book in-person or virtual appointments. We offer longer appointment times when needed and because our practice is small patients do not have to wait long for their appointment before being seen. I can treat the whole person. I can see someone for the mental health needs but if they tell me they ran out of their blood pressure medication and can’t get in with their provider. I can send in their medication to help them out. I am proud I am building a brand that reflects who I am and the type of care I would like to provide. I want readers to know that I am available to provide culturally sensitive care, genuine support, and real connection.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I loved being outdoors. I loved running, and dancing. I was a bit introverted in school but very outgoing when it came to sports, clubs or extracurricular activities.
