Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Molloy
Hi Misty, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I took a long and winding road to get where I am today. After earning degrees in Corporate Communications and Religious Studies from Elon University, I began my career in the nonprofit sector, working as a Volunteer & Community Coordinator at Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region. I thrived in that role, juggling many responsibilities, managing relationships, and creating programs. However, I wanted to grow personally and professionally, so I pivoted into strategic consulting for entrepreneurs and small businesses.
During this transition, I also earned a Master’s Degree in Leadership & Organizational Change, driven by my fascination with how to make a company run as smoothly as possible. I delved into strategies for aligning employees with a shared mission, building team buy-in and moving an organization forward with clarity and purpose. This education fueled my ability to optimize processes and foster collaborative environments, skills that now inform every aspect of my interior design practice.
That consulting experience led me to a role as Director of HR & Strategic Initiatives at an e-commerce company, ZQUARED. While I loved leading operations and building strategy, my true passion for design and entrepreneurship kept calling. In November 2019, I started CoCreative Interiors as a side hustle. It allowed me to channel my love for design into helping clients transform their homes. By January 2024, I was ready to take the leap and make CoCreative Interiors my full-time focus.
Today, my business has grown bigger than I could have imagined. I now lead whole-home renovations and new build development, managing projects from start to finish, including furnishings and final styling. My operations and project management background makes me a strong designer and project leader, and my relationship management skills help me build partnerships with contractors, architects, and vendors. Design, after all, is 80% people and project management.
My ultimate vision is to build an award-winning team known for operational excellence, bold, colorful designs, and a collaborative approach that delivers exceptional results for every client.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been anything but smooth, but I wouldn’t change anything about the journey. One of the aspects I’m most proud of is that I’ve built CoCreative Interiors without any outside capital, always operating in the black. Starting the business as a side hustle while working a demanding corporate job allowed me to generate income while growing my design firm, but it came at a cost—I burned out. Balancing a fast-paced corporate career that required travel, serving clients in my interior design business, raising two small boys, and maintaining a personal life was overwhelming. Eventually, I had to take a leap of faith and bet on myself, leaving corporate to pursue my passion full-time.
One of the toughest challenges has been spinning all the plates and wearing so many hats. As much as I love running the business and being a designer, trying to do everything—client work, marketing, operations, finances—is exhausting. Another struggle is finding the time and resources to build a team. Expanding my support team was a significant hurdle but also transformative. Hiring an operations manager and a design assistant has been a game-changer, allowing me to focus on growing the business and doing what I love most: delivering exceptional designs.
We’ve been impressed with CoCreative Interiors, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

- Pricing for our services is dependent on the scope of your project, as each design is tailored to the unique needs, scale, and vision for your space. Whether it’s a no-demo renovation, a whole-home transformation, or finishing with furnishings and styling, the cost will vary based on factors like the size of the project, materials, finishes, and complexity of the design.
